We recently connected with Denesha Randolph and have shared our conversation below.
Denesha, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Discipline and Sacrifice. It’s been 10 years since I got my real estate license and I think when I got my first lump sum of money from a commission check I didn’t account for the discipline it took keep business consistent and the sacrifice it would take to make more. Checks were coming and I was going … ANYWHERE that would needed a passport stamp. Now I’m more focused on the longevity of my career so that means sacrificing a lot of personal time for a solid business structure.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Denesha but I prefer Ms. Randolph lol so no one forgets I mean business any time and all the time. I am a Real Estate vet and a business owner. I kind of stumbled into real estate after servicing a woman’s cell phone who just happened to be realtor. At the time I was providing tech service for cell phones and this sweet older woman came in needing a new phone and she had at least 1500 contacts. So we ended up spending most of the afternoon chatting and saving her data. I remember kind of wanting her to get out after an hr lol because I was going over break and wanted to be done with my customer, but she was sweet so I just continued in the midst I asked her what she did that she needed so many contacts and she quickly answered “I’m a Real Estate Agent and you have been so good with me I think you would be great at it.” I asked a few questions but by the time she told me about commission I was already sold. I must have googled it for weeks and I never looked back. Even the years I didn’t practice I made sure I did everything to maintain my license.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
After getting pregnant with my 1st child during covid, I found it very difficult to be in public even with Lysol and a face mask. So that meant no open houses, no showings, no listing appointments. I was literally just in the house trying to figure out what would be my next business move. I tapped into my hobby of making things and started making lip scrubs and created a whole natural lip-care line with corrective attributes. Covid was an ideal time to get into the cosmetic industry. Everyone was home doing facials and tik- tok challenges anyway so I just went for it. I introduced it to my clients 1st in gift bags and house-iversary baskets which included the standard Covid-19 essentials—like hand sanitizer, paper towels, disinfectant wipes AND First Base Cosmetics lip scrubs and lip oils. My clients loved it, and I eventually ended up placing First Base Cosmetics products in a location in Livingston Mall of New Jersey. It was an easy way to stay connected with clients from the past (past clients are a healthy percentage of my real estate business.) and created a new stream of income.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My previous clients. My clients really doing half the work for me. I try my best to create an amazing authentic experience for each and every person/family I close with. And when you do a good deal with people they want to come back for another one! Or they want to brag about it to their friends and family which all in all usually results in closing another good deal. That applies to my Cosmetic line as well. I always check in with past customers for their personal thoughts and feedback that part usually entices them to shop again.
