Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Deneen Joyner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Deneen, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
I started out in the field of Social Work. Helping people to provide direction and guidance towards living a better life, has always been my primary focus and concern.
I learned a lot about the resilience of people and the ability to forgive as it relates to families. I worked in this field for over 30 years, concentrating most of my professional skills and knowledge working with children and families in trauma. I retired early due to the emotional demands that was required for me to be effective as a servant.
I decided to return to school to pursue a master’s degree in adult education, believing that I could use my love for training others to chart a new career. However, during this time, I experienced a spiritual awakening that prompted me to begin a healing journey.
During my healing journey, I revisited many unhealed places within my soul along with the ways of my family and how I grew up.
This journey called upon me to remove the mask I had been wearing that offered me the opportunity to pretend to be happy and have it all together, despite carrying the emotional aftermath of my childhood pain and trauma.
Upon the conclusion of this journey, I arrived at knowing my truth and true purpose; to teach and empower others how to explore their childhood emotional pain and trauma to understand their generational curses and leverage both the individual and collective experiences to heal themselves and the bloodline.
I established my spiritual brand Chosen to be empowered LLC in 2015, authored a nationally awarded spiritual memoir and have been offering my expertise in ancestral trauma ever since.
Some of the challenges that I encountered was surrounding my reservations around being judged because I’m spiritually gifted and an introvert. I realized that my gifts are the core of who I am, so I had to put my fear aside if I truly wanted to help people.
Other challenges stemmed around my evolution with healing, while navigating my business. Having my own business presented imposter syndrome, which triggered issues I was still healing and overcoming relating self-worth. I learned to acknowledge my feelings and give myself grace but to also continue to move forward with completion of my goals.
I wouldn’t change anything, because it taught me so much about myself and how to navigate expectations of others.
I also was challenged with worrying about what my ancestors would think about how I was using their ancient soul healing practices in a new way. I introduce the same healing laws that delivered me to my own healing with clients and students all over the world! It was important that I stay true to these ancient foundational practices but also make it practical for people today.
My advice for anyone starting their own practice or business, would be; if you’ve experienced emotional pain and trauma and have not healed it, invest in yourself and start a healing journey. Entrepreneurship can trigger you emotionally and if you are wounded from your past, you will not be successful because it will continue to get in the way.

Deneen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Deneen Joyner was born into a family of highly gifted healers. She is a seventh daughter and seventh- generation healer and the heiress to her Native American ancestor’s ancient indigenous soul healing practices, bringing spirit led soul healing, sacred God given gifts, wisdom and impeccable counsel into the 21st century.
Deneen is an international spiritual teacher and nationally award-winning author with over 30 years of previous professional social work experience working directly with children and families in pain and trauma. Healing individuals and their families is important to her because she herself experienced severe childhood neglect and trauma, which greatly impacted her perception of her life’s potential.
As an Ancestral Trauma Expert, working on behalf of God and her spiritual business Chosen to be empowered LLC, she is a victor of healing over four decades of emotional pain and trauma. Deneen is entrusted and anointed to work with The Holy Spirit in using her gifts to access a soul’s journey along which details the history of one’s emotional soul wounds along with a family’s emotional genealogy; the origin and roots detailing a family’s emotional framework, along with their spiritual inheritance; generational curses, generational wealth, and gifts.
She offers an array of ways to work with her through her spiritual teachings, soul journeys, couple journeys, emotional genealogy work, and enlightened interviews all related to ancestral trauma and indigenous healing. Most offerings are tailored for a virtual experience but also can be in person.
Using her personal experiences and professional knowledge of ancestral trauma she solves the age-old problem of people numbing their lives and deciding to carry pain and trauma because they never saw it before within their own family.
Deneen awakens others standing upon the legacy of her ancestors, personal experiences with pain and trauma as well as her former professional career to awaken others to begin a healing journey of their own.
I am most proud of continuing the healing work started over a century ago of my Native American ancestors in honor of God!
I would like followers to know that once pain and trauma has been experienced overtime, it goes into the soul and will reside there until healing takes place. Talk therapy will not address pain and trauma that has been living in your soul for decades. Unaddressed pain and trauma require something that goes to the root of where the pain and trauma lives.
Spirit-led soul healing goes to the root and is the only natural antidote that relies on the soul to heal the soul. This form of healing teaches how to partner with God, yourself, and the pain itself to deliver you back to wholeness and who God created you to be to fulfill a divine purpose that is waiting.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I actually now see that God divinely orchestrated everything that I have encountered and experienced. There isn’t anything that I would change because it has prepared me and allowed me to intimately become fortified with the subject matter regarding ancestral trauma and childhood emotional pain.
I am continuing my family’s legacy in healing, and I am humbled and honored to be a servant in the many ways that God ask of me.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My journey has truly been one of resilience and ongoing enlightenment something that has proven to be steppingstones to my constant elevation and evolution with self-awareness and healing.
Something that I am more aware of is that it’s not about me! This was difficult to accept when I first started to heal my life and to take on continuing the legacy of helping others to do the same, was recognizing that I needed to get out of the way with all of the things that were ego based and born out of fear and wanting to fit into what the world deemed acceptable.
I was someone that God created to stand out, be different and not fit in. My journey has presented many scenarios that required or asked me to be in the spotlight, speak out, or express myself. For a true introvert and hermit, pushing me out of my comfort zone onto a stage, a Facebook live, or to facilitate a workshop illustrates my resilience and willingness to follow God’s lead instead of my own.
