We were lucky to catch up with De’Myah Unique recently and have shared our conversation below.
De’Myah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My brand tells a story tells of a young girl who lacked vision, who was buried under low self-esteem and was looked over. She had no idea of who she was or what her place was in the world. She began to copy what she saw around her but none of it fit. She sought approval from others and that didn’t work either. This is when the young girl met her creator. She then discovered her identity, purpose, and passion and used the platform given to her to make an impact and push others. From here is where the De’Myah Unique Brand was created to show others that if she can do then they can do it too.
My brand showcases the journey of embracing who you are as an individual and what you can offer to this world in authenticity.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Honestly, my entire life I’ve had a creative and entrepreneurial mindset. At a very young age, I could envision myself in high heels and a clipboard which in our Modern day turned into Platform Gym shoes and a Ipad. As a child, I had multiple businesses and I understood what it meant to use what I had and think outside the box. And this was exactly what I did from Candy stores in Wagons to Duct Tape Wallets.
So, I knew as a child that I was called to Entrepreneurship but what that would look like and include I had no idea but I would get all types of ideas and visions for products and services.
However, my gifts didn’t stop at creativity. I begin to notice I had a love to learn, write, lead, and teach.
The older I became, the more of myself I embraced. The scales of Insecurity, fear, intimidation, and a negative self image began to fall away and I could finally see myself and who I really was.
As I went through college, I started out with the motivation to go into the field of Finance to become a financial planner but the motivation behind it wasn’t proper and in alignment with who I was. I began to discover my interests in Marketing and Brand design and how it allowed me to express myself creatively.
During my Junior year of College, I began my Brand “De’Myah Unique” and established myself as a Brand Strategist Consultant and Designer for Multi-passionate CEO’s, Founders, and Visionaries who desire to take their multiple passions into a cohesive blueprint and build a global brand that their customers fall in love with!
I give CEO’s and Creatives permission to be ALL of who they were made to be. No more boxes. No more one size fits all. No more formulas! I help build ICONIC brands where others tell them to settle or “niche” down.
I am considered the Brand Architect who offers services to help design and structure the Brand’s core, visual and verbal identity, and strategy that sets a clear distinction between them and their competitors.
What sets me apart from other Brand Strategist and designers is my origin story and how I focus on building both the Visionary and the Vision because I believe the Vision is only as good as the Visionary. We cannot scale our brands if we don’t scale the Visionary behind the brand. Also, I believe true success is not defined by having a six figure business especially if we are emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually unhealthy.
Honestly, I am the most proud of being able to make it this far within my brand and platform that I have so far because 10 year old me would’ve never thought I would be able to talk on a stage or even be on camera showing up. I literally was so afraid to show up and talk in front of others because of the insecurities that I had and now I literally have a brand that requires me to show up and show my face consistently.
Also, I have had the opportunity of impacting over 250+ lives through my brand as a whole via my Internship Program, Group Mentorship Program, Workshops, Leadership Summits, and Live series!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Honestly, I’ve built my audience on my social media platforms from remaining authentic to myself and what’s on the inside of me. As a Creator, it also takes consuming less so that what you create is not on the basis of what others are creating. It can become exhausting once you stop having fun with the content that you produce for your audience. As everyone usually says consistency and quality is definitely key when it comes to the content that you post but I truly believe in relationships and community building.
I make sure that I engage with every single person and make them feel seen, heard, and loved and I did this through polls, question boxes, and behind the scene Content to include them along your journey.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I have been called to be and live an Unconventional and Non traditional life and this requires me to have to pivot quite often because I am trailblazing down a path that is unmarked territory. I’ve had to get used to pivoting and understand that something that doesn’t go the way I planned doesn’t define me.
I’ve had to pivot several times in my life and business. Within business, most entrepreneurs battle with charging your worth and for one specific program that I offer I’ve had to pivot through every single cohort as far as pricing and the marketing strategy. My target market has consistently stayed the same but I had to pivot in my approach and instead of going direct to consumer but going the sponsorships route.
