We recently connected with Demontae Edmonds and have shared our conversation below.
Demontae, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Yes, I have been able to earn a living from my full time creative work. At first I was bi-vocational. It seemed like it would never happen that I would be able to solely focus on speaking and writing. I prayed and planned for years that the opportunity would present itself to be able to be independent in my craft and not be “tied down” to a 9 to 5 job. There is an old saying that “luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” I spent a lot of time preparing my mind, heart, and support system in order to be able to make the leap of faith to leave regular employment. When the opportunity presented itself I ran through the door. At first it was a lot of anxiety but things began to fall into place smoothly and effortlessly.
Looking back I understand that any business owner, creative, speaker, or artists has to understand the importance of right timing. Timing is when the best circumstances surrounding our affairs line up to create a window of opportunity. Often people miss their “window of opportunity” and have to wait months or years for it to reappear. Seizing the right timing is very important to maximizing your potential.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m an international faith-based speaker and author. As a speaker I have been able to travel to over twenty-five nations sharing messages of encouragement, hope, and inspiration. Its been a privilege to be able to bring hope to people from all walks of life, different cultures, and different ethnic groups. As an author my books have sold globally and been able to help people along their spiritual journey.
One of the most common issues I help people solve is understanding their gifts and purpose in life. Also, helping people become comfortable with their own God-given identity. Once people discover their true identity they gain a new sense of self-awareness, confidence, and boldness. Also, I have helped institutions navigate through seasons of major transitions. As well its been a privilege to be able to speak into nations and to leaders of nations to help them make better decisions that will positive impact their respective communities and the people they govern.
One of the attributes that sets me apart from others in my field is that I really “care” about those that I’m able to help or empower. A young lady told me years ago, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” When people discover that someone has a genuine interest in their progress and well-being they place a premium upon the relationship and product & services offered. I’m most proud of being able to help some people escape from some of the darkest places of life and enter into seasons of victory and joy.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice
When I first heard of NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) I was really confused and uncertain of what they were and how they worked. Overtime I began to understand the function and see the value in NFTs. I think its a really neat and creative technology and concept for creatives to digitally create works of art and archive digital content. It seems like a natural progression in the crypto-world. While cryptocurrency deals with finances (numbers), NFT deals with media and graphic imagery. It is a safe and easy way for investors to “hold art” that can be easily moved and managed unlike oil and acrylic paintings of old. The NFT technology allows that the content can be authenticated but not copied or duplicated which causes it to have value. For creatives NFTs are a great way that “starving artist” can earn income or even a small fortune more easily than in the past.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The power of social media helped to build my reputation. People often like to “watch” or study an individual or business before engaging or contributing. Social media and television allows people to experience you from afar and get a feel for your consistency, integrity, and abilities. Over time you earn their trust and they find the value in what you are doing. Social media is a great way to engage people who may not commonly gravitate to you, your business, or service.
