We were lucky to catch up with Demario Hinds recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Demario thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Initially, it began in my backyard when my dad asked me to take a picture of a banana tree that was blossoming. Over time, it developed into a habit and more so a passion.
I only began shooting professionally seriously since July 17, 2020. I remember the exact date because I was doing a summer job, and decided not to go to shoot my friend for my clothing brand. I got fired though, from the job that is.
Sometimes, you have to believe in yourself and take that leap of faith. That’s what I did, and never looked back since.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started photography as a hobby in high school, it was 2016 at that time and I was going into the summer of that year. At that time, I was residing in Portmore, and I recall the day my dad asked me to take a picture of this banana tree in the backyard. Truthfully, I developed a passion for it over time, as it became a habit and second nature for me.
Some of the creatives who are more experienced than me have provided opportunities and also gave me lessons on how to go about a lot of things in the industry. How to deal with clients, how to deliver work to clients, professionalism and good business ethics, are some of the soft skills I have learned from the respective creatives older than me.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I’m definitely working towards being the best there is, and that’s a realistic feat which will take some time, but in all honesty, nothing is far from my reach.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
In my opinion, it’s the feeling of accomplishment after achieving a feat or certain goal. It’s also rewarding seeing your work being appreciated by persons in the creative community and other individuals.
