We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Delvia “ArtSoulistic” Wilder. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with “ArtSoulistic” below.
Delvia “ArtSoulistic”, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
As a young adult, having a career in the Arts was not in my plans. Life’s trials and tribulations steered me down this creative path. Initially and being self-taught, I wasn’t that familiar or knowledgeable of the visual arts world so I really didn’t take it seriously until a few years later. Once I started receiving criticism and positive feedback, that’s when I stepped up my creativity as a professional artist.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a self-taught mixed media visual artist from the Washington, DC (DMV) area. I have two amazingly creative and beautiful daughters. At the beginning of my artistic voyage, I was only using my creativity as an outlet for my emotional pain. During the early 2000’s, I was a master at creating MS PowerPoint presentations and so that’s where I started creating my works of art. I became addicted to creating and would spend hours on the computer just making art. Today, my artwork exhibits in local restaurants and other establishments in the DMV area. I’ve won a local award and has had a few solo exhibits as well.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is finally seeing the finished art piece. From visualizing it to seeing it all physically come together in one coherent piece…like giving birth to what you created.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I think the goal that drives me to be creative is getting people to accept, love and support all artists. Being an artist and being creative comes in so many different art forms or mediums. Sometimes you can’t be afraid to go outside the box, because art is so emotional, so expressive and so unique. And know that “every artist brings something different to the art world.” – ArtSoulistic
