We were lucky to catch up with Delores Eddington recently and have shared our conversation below.
Delores , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I would have to say that the most meaningful project that I’ve worked on would be one of the current times. It’s a webtoon, in the form of short stories, that illustrate meaningful moments in my life that have shaped me. The storytelling is told through the perspective of the three main characters and holds value as I use my illustrations to illustrate my experience as a Black-Queer, non-binary person. And although the storytelling uses comedy for the reader, ultimately it talks about the challenges that we face as human beings, navigating relationships and the dark humor around little incidents that we tend to give little merit to.

Delores , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Ultimately my story can’t be called unique. I think at some point all creative people find that they’ve always delved into something close to their field. I am the oldest of four, and we all have a talent for the traditional arts in some form. I found my love for drawing through forms of drawing manga and anime characters, and over the years this turned into a love for graphic design and digital illustration; Paired with subtle competitions with my siblings. Currently, I use my craft, as both a designer and illustrator, to perform massive tasks such as designing brochures and digital and printed ads, logos, etc.
During my journey, I’ve learned a great deal about myself as an artist, and how I want to share stories with the people that see my work. My goal as a creative will always be to share my experiences in a creative and colorful way, through means of my work, both illustrative and design-focused.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewards aspect of being creative? It’s an easy question, but also one that is complicated. I always tell myself that I illustrate and design material for the fun of it. My ultimate goal reveals itself in the form of bringing me joy, but that’s only half of it. The rewarding part for me is the comments that I can get from beginning illustrators, clients, or patrons of my office that might have seen the work I’ve done. There’s something that is rewarding about getting to share moments with viewers about how they view your work, or how the work has affected them.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission would be to simply spread my experience. Illustrate my journey through themes that have stayed with me as a child and into my adulthood. My illustrative work often reflects aspects of my childhood that hold pockets of endearment for me.
