We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Delis Gonzalez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Delis below.
Delis, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always been enchanted by flowers—their names, their intricacies, and the way each bloom reflects nature’s perfection. That deep admiration sparked a personal journey. It began with a few potted plants and quickly grew into an obsession with cultivation. I dove into gardening books, studied growing methods, and learned to start from seed. Every season, I expanded my knowledge and my garden. Eventually, I began dreaming of a life rooted in florals: a cottage, a garden, connection and purpose. The vision felt far away. No land, no funding, no time. But step by step, I pushed forward. Once I had access to a small piece of land, I dedicated every free moment to learning the craft of floral cultivation. What began as a hobby soon blossomed into a business. I started selling flowers simply to fund my supplies, but the abundance led me to floral design. As a lifelong artist, it felt like a natural extension of my creativity. That’s how Sol & Bloom Floral was born—out of a love for nature, beauty, and the belief that with passion and persistence, anything can grow.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m the owner and floral designer behind Sol & Bloom Floral Co., where I bring my love for flowers and art together to create bespoke floral designs for weddings and events. What began as a personal passion for growing and arranging blooms has blossomed into a full-service floral studio rooted in creativity, care, and connection.
I create a-la-carte packages with my clients mainly brides and guiding them through inspiration photos, color palettes, and floral possibilities to design something truly one-of-a-kind. Whether we’re working from a vibe, a style, or a specific theme, I pour my heart into every detail until it feels just right. Aside from weddings, we also design florals for events like corporate celebrations, brand launches, and personal milestones such as baby showers and birthdays.
What sets Sol & Bloom apart is that each design is deeply intentional. I’m proud to offer a personalized, heart-forward experience where art and nature come together to tell your story in full bloom.
Let’s move on to buying businesses – can you talk to us about your experience with business acquisitions?
Yes! Sol & Bloom Floral Co. is my second business, but my first startup, passion-driven venture. Before launching it, I spent over seven years deeply immersed in another business where I learned how to run one from all aspect. I was fortunate to acquired it after running day-to-day operations for several years.
The acquisition process was anything but easy—it took months of negotiation, paperwork, and trust-building. But more than anything, it required me to shift my mindset. I had to learn to believe in my own ability to lead and sustain something I didn’t build from the ground up. Because I had already proved that I could do it. This experience allowed me to feel confident enough to pursue my dream of building Sol & Bloom from the soil up—this time, with full creative control and intention.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One major lesson I had to unlearn is that I can’t and shouldn’t do everything myself. As a natural problem solver and perfectionist, I used to take on every task, often working myself to the point of burnout. I thought that was what dedication looked like.
It wasn’t until I experienced true burnout that I realized delegation isn’t a weakness—it’s a strategy for sustainability. I began outsourcing tasks that drained my energy and leaned into the areas where I thrive creatively. That shift not only gave me space to breathe but also allowed me to focus on growing Sol & Bloom with intention. Letting go of control in some areas has helped me show up more fully in the areas that matter most.
