We recently connected with Delilah Lopez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Delilah, thanks for joining us today. Alright, let’s jump into one of the most exciting parts of starting a new venture – how did you get your first client who was not a friend or family?
When encountered my first client I was watching random streamers on twitch. I usually watch to get a feel for the vibe. This gentlemen was saying he needed a new logo and he wished he knew someone. I will say I hesitated due to the fact that I’m very timid when it comes to putting myself out there. I did go ahead and write in his chat told him I was new to doing graphics but if he was willing i could make him the logo. We got to talking and I ended up doing a logo, emote, and scenes. I won’t ever forget that because it made me realize how much I enjoy the process of creating something special for someone. Hearing how excited and happy they are with my work makes me want to keep doing it even if it’s only sometimes.

Delilah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
To introduce myself I’m Delilah B Lopez. I first got into graphic design after I lost interest in drawing. I always loved art and still do. There is something about when people express themselves with any type of art. You have so many options it’s unbelievable. The first time I noticed I was doing graphics without realizing was when I working at T-Mobile. My boss and team would want flyers to pass around to businesses to bring clients in. So I started using canva to make flyers. I fell off for a while because I never thought about doing it for money. I did enjoy it though. A few years later my old boss/friend from that job started to call me and asked me for small jobs to do. The more I did the more I wanted to learn about making logos and etc. I’m still pretty new to doing graphic design but when given a chance I try to go above and beyond. Photography is something extremely new to me I did it only because my good friend Trivicia needed photos and sometimes as a small creator you don’t want to pay an arm and a leg. So I told her confidently I can do it and I have all the software for edits and etc. She gave me a opportunity that I didn’t know would come out so amazing. We all enjoyed the process to say the least. My brand is Lopez Graphic Design. As of right now I mainly do logos, but I’ve also done flyers, busniess cards, scenes for streamers, and etc. Photos I’m willing if asked to do them.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the customer. The customers feedback makes me better but sometimes customers also learn from the creators. I love listening to the customers vision about their business. That in itself gives me a vision myself my brain starts just turning getting ideas. Given some visions might not come right away. In the end giving the customer what they want is a heart felt moment that you can’t get from just anywhere.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Sometimes I feel people don’t understand that it can be a long process to give them what they want. If you change your mind, don’t like the colors, and etc. That isn’t the only thing I have encountered. Sometimes you have to send a customer off to do their own research because you ask questions and they don’t know the answers. The one I alway say is what is your business about and is the colors and things you want to incorporate calling your customer base or is it more of a you thing. I had a customer tell me about a logo for a bakery and I asked if you saw this logo on a website or building would you think it’s a bakery. She said no. So before you go to anyone do your own research but also we are here to help with that if you don’t know how to start.
