We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful owners of Atlanta Doula Services. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Delena and Deja below
Deja & Delena, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know about how you started in the doula business, Delena.
I’ve been a doula for seven years now. I really enjoy bringing families together with their little ones in a ceremony as sacred as birth. However, I recently took time off of my personal doula journey to start an agency. I partnered with my now friend and former doula client, Deja Velasquez to form Atlanta Doula Services. This all started in 2020, when Deja (a first time mom) booked me for birth doula support. However, in her pursuit of doula services, she ran into difficulty finding a doula who implemented a holistic approach to the birthing process. After interviewing multiple doulas and exhausting every search engine, Deja came across my Facebook business page. We instantly connected on a spiritual level and I was overjoyed when to join her family for the birth of her daughter.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started out as a volunteer doula in Jacksonville, Florida for poverty-stricken families. Eventually, I made my way to Atlanta and became Delena the Doula. I have serviced over 40 families since that time and made a lot of great connections. Once Deja and I got the idea of building a doula agency, we really hit the ground running. We now have about seven contracted birth doulas and two postpartum doulas. We’re kind of still in the building phase but the groundwork is done at least.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Over the years, I’ve made it my business to check in on clients from time-to-time and they share their journeys updates as well. I really build friendships with my clients. Going forward,Atlanta Doula Services plans to maintain a strong connection with our clients by nurturing, and caring throughout the prenatal and postpartum process and personalized follow up.
We’re dedicated to walking alongside our clients in the delivery room, ensuring well-rounded support in the journey to motherhood.
We’re not just a premier doula matchmaking service, we’re your companions, confidants, and allies on this remarkable experience.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I did a lot of campaigning through social media and networking. I was also featured on CNN in 2020 to discuss how the pandemic impacted my business. I think a lot of that helped build my reputation throughout the birth community. I’m hoping I’ve garnered enough support to lay a strong foundation of support for Atlanta Doula Services as well.
