We were lucky to catch up with Dele Nguyen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dele, thanks for joining us today. Do you have any thoughts about how to create a more inclusive workplace?
Many people feel intimidated by social media, waiting to lose weight, establish their brand further, or believing they lack the personality or aesthetic appeal to share their lives. However, social media is for everyone. I believe that your unique perspective is valuable and your authenticity should be celebrated. That’s what I strive to capture for each of my clients. I enjoy listening to my clients’ doubts and worries and transforming them into content they can be proud to share with their audiences.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Dele Nguyen, and I am a lifestyle photographer and digital marketing strategist. I help streamline content creation for influencers and small businesses through retainer services and quarterly digital marketing workshops. My brand plays a crucial supportive role for startup businesses by delivering quality experiences and results at an affordable cost.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I began my photography career in the Detroit music industry, capturing street photography and album covers for local artists. However, this did not fulfill me both emotionally and financially as I had hoped, prompting a reevaluation. I realized that a successful business needs three key elements: talent—something you’re good at, passion—something you love, and demand—something people always need. After much consideration, I identified my talent as portrait work, my passion as supporting small businesses, and the demand as consistent content for social media. Since making this pivot, I have not been out of work.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I quickly learned in the entrepreneurial space that success is only partially about what you can do and largely about who you know. Every day, I make an effort to put myself out there, shake hands with people, build rapport with colleagues, and attend community events. This ensures I am in the right rooms, meeting, learning from and collaborating with the right people.
