We caught up with the brilliant and insightful DelCo Spidey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
DelCo, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I wish I had started sooner. It’s been beyond a blessing to put on the 🕸 suit and reach people’s imagination. To create a moment where one will instantly smile. If I’d been more confident in the idea and myself, maybe I would have. But to be able to have the successes I have empowers me to want to do more.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For the past 6 years I’ve been volunteering/entertaining the community as DelCo Spidey. I grew up in Delaware County, Pennsylvania and wanted a creative way to give back to the community. After some research and a spider-bite you could say, I ordered the suit and started from scratch. Growing up I wasn’t the most popular kid but always enjoyed giving back. Which I know I got that from my parents. I started reaching out to local nonprofit foundations, local charities, and local hospitals. Then I would volunteer my time and whalaah! People enjoyed my version of the webhead and the smiles people would get from seeing me. The more I suited up the more people I would help smile. So I added doing toy drives, push-up challenges, greeting card drives, and Valentine’s Day cad drives – all within the community to let them know people are out there that care.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I would say don’t be afraid to give something new a try. After all seeing is believing. Enjoy the experience while being encouraging. With an open mind, you can see another’s vision and live in the experience so to say. In other words, kick back and enjoy the moments.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The main goal is make sure others know that someone out there cares. This journey has allowed me to share personal moments with a family who’s child is fighting cancer, as well as had me work with the local senior community to add smiles to their day.
