We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Delaney Rietveld. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Delaney below.
Delaney, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Everything I’ve done to expand my writing packages is because I’ve seen a genuine need from the businesses I talk to. Two of the things they struggle with when it comes to writing? 1) Consistently generating content and 2) Nailing their brand voice.
Content creation is a beast! Even if you’ve decided to outsource the writing of your blog, social media, and email content to a writer, it’s still a huge amount of work to organize their projects, create briefs, and research topics for them to write about. By the time you’ve sent everything over to your writer, you’ve likely put in several hours already.
Working with me is different because I do all that for you! The relief my clients get when they can hand off their content strategies to someone equally invested in their success is immense.
On top of content planning, I help businesses nail their brand voice messaging. Especially if you’re just starting to regularly produce content, you likely haven’t nailed down exactly how you’ll sound in order to entice your ideal audience. Nailing your brand voice messaging is essential if you want to create dedicated readers.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a freelance writer who specializes in creative copywriting and content planning.
I originally got my start writing content for life coaches. I’ve always loved personal development content and to this day, it’s still my favorite topic to write on.
As I’ve seen a need, I’ve expanded my business to include content planning and creative copywriting. I’m a big-picture kind of person, so I love helping my clients stay organized and create content strategies that help serve their overall goals.
As we are seeing time and time again, content creation for a company is pretty much a full time job! You need to keep up with trends, post across multiple platforms, keep your email list engaged, and constantly provide value to your readers. If it’s all too much for you, then you need to hire someone who specializes in content planning in order to take all that off your plate.
I’m most proud of the time and mental energy I free up for my clients. So many business owners are overwhelmed when it comes to creating content (and having it be high quality!) that they don’t know even know where to start when we get on a strategy call. I love seeing them breathe a sigh of relief when they realize I can help handle most of what they’ve been stressing about.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I started my business as a side hustle in the summer of 2021. I was working a job in a field I wasn’t passionate about, doing extremely long and stressful days. After these long and stressful days, I’d come home and work on my business.
That period of my life was one of the hardest and most exhausting seasons I’ve been through. Channeling creative energy and learning something new when you’re already burnt out is a whole new level of challenge. However, through that time, I learned how to be resourceful and develop new skills.
There’s a lot of just figuring it out in the early days of entrepreneurship.
Fast forward several months, and I was able to quit my full time job. I also was able to move from Minnesota to Atlanta. It’s always been a value of mine to see more of the world, and I’m so grateful my business has allowed me to do that.
Moving to Atlanta has also afforded me the opportunity to finally pursue an acting career after the pandemic. I really feel like I’m living within my values doing creative work each day, for both writing and acting!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Determination and a willingness to make mistakes will get you much farther than skills or natural talent.
I talk to so many people who say they could never do what I do, but what they fail to realize is that I don’t have any special skills that they couldn’t also learn from a simple google search! You kind of have to be obsessed with something in order to make it work, so just get a little obsessed and you’ll start to see results.
If you value creativity in your life, you can absolutely create a business that lends your creativity to others.
