We were lucky to catch up with Delaney Hallcroft recently and have shared our conversation below.
DeLaney, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned while working at a prior job?
Before becoming a full-time content creator, I played Division I soccer at the University of Wyoming. For four years, soccer and academics were my full-time commitment—we had little to no extra time for other jobs. Although I never had a traditional job, I know that the lessons I learned playing D1 soccer were far beyond what I could have gained in a regular workplace. Competing at the highest level pushed me mentally and physically in ways that shaped who I am today.
One of the most important lessons I carry with me is discipline. From a young age, I knew I wanted to play D1, and I understood that the only way to get there was through relentless hard work—showing up every single day to refine my craft, even when I didn’t feel like it. Proving to myself that dedication and consistency could turn a dream into reality gave me the confidence to apply that same mindset to content creation. I had already seen firsthand what it took to reach the highest level in collegiate soccer, and I knew that if I channeled that same discipline and work ethic, I could build my own business and create something meaningful on my own terms.
I also knew that I didn’t want a typical 9-to-5 job. So when I realized I could turn content creation into a full-time career, I decided to go all in. After graduating college, I picked up my phone and started filming—having no clue it would grow into what it is today. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to work with both large and small brands, including Pair Eyewear, Loop Earplugs, and Blue Apron. Essentially, brands hire me to create ads that they can run on social media platforms, and I’ve turned that passion into a business.
Another lesson I’ve carried with me is the power of consistency. When I first started creating content, there were moments when I had no idea if what I was doing was actually working. Just like in soccer, some days felt like I was running on a hamster wheel—putting in the effort without seeing immediate results. But I knew that if I stayed consistent, the small steps I was taking would eventually compound into something bigger.
Playing at the D1 level also came with some of the hardest challenges I’ve ever faced. From suffering career-ending injuries to navigating the politics that come with playing a competitive sport, I went through some of the most difficult moments of my life. But looking back, I wouldn’t trade those struggles for the world. Every setback, every tough moment, built me into the person I am today. And without those experiences, I truly believe I wouldn’t be as far along in running my own business as I am now. For that, I am forever grateful.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a full-time UGC (User-Generated Content) creator, but my journey here has been anything but traditional. Before stepping into this industry, I played Division I soccer at the University of Wyoming. Those four years were intense—soccer and academics were my full-time commitment, and I didn’t have the luxury of pursuing other jobs. But looking back, I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything. Competing at the highest collegiate level shaped me in ways a typical job never could, teaching me invaluable lessons about discipline, resilience, and consistency—traits that now drive my success as a content creator.
When I graduated, I knew I didn’t want to follow the traditional 9-to-5 path. I wanted something that gave me creative freedom while still allowing me to build something of my own. So, I picked up my phone and started filming—having no idea that it would turn into a full-time career. Now, I create engaging, high-converting ad content for brands to use on social media platforms. I’ve worked with both large and small brands, including Pair Eyewear, Loop Earplugs, and Blue Apron, helping them connect with their audiences in an authentic and relatable way.
What sets me apart is my athlete mindset. Playing D1 soccer meant overcoming challenges, from career-ending injuries to navigating the competitive nature and politics of sports. There were moments when I felt stuck—like I was putting in endless effort without immediate results—but I learned that staying consistent is key. That same mentality now fuels my approach to content creation. I understand that building a brand, whether it’s personal or for a client, is a long game. I put in the work daily, testing, refining, and adapting to ensure the content I produce drives results.
At the core of my work is the ability to create content that doesn’t feel like an ad. In today’s digital world, people scroll past traditional marketing, but they engage with content that feels native to their feed—content that tells a story and feels personal. That’s where I come in. Brands hire me to craft content that seamlessly blends into social media, making their ads more effective and relatable.
I’m most proud of the fact that I turned my passion into a business. I started with zero experience in content creation, no roadmap, and no idea where it would lead. But just like with soccer, I trusted the process, stayed consistent, and now I get to do what I love every day—helping brands elevate their marketing through high-quality UGC.
For potential clients and followers, I want them to know that my approach is built on authenticity and performance. I don’t just create content—I create content that converts. Whether it’s storytelling, trends, or direct-response-style ads, I focus on delivering results while keeping things engaging and organic. If you’re a brand looking to connect with your audience in a more relatable and impactful way, I’d love to help bring your vision to life!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I’ve worked with over 150 brands in the year and a half that I’ve been creating UGC, and throughout that time, I’ve refined my approach to ensure the best possible results for both myself and my clients.
When I first started out, I had a retainer client, and that experience made me realize the value of long-term partnerships as a business owner. I’m not the type of creator who prefers to start with just one video—I don’t believe that’s the best use of my time or my client’s investment. Instead, I focus on offering video packages that allow for A/B testing, so we can analyze what truly resonates with their audience and optimize accordingly.
What has been most effective in building my clientele is always going above and beyond. I make sure every project is set up for success before we even sign a contract. This means outlining my process upfront, providing clear timelines, and ensuring we’re completely aligned before moving forward. I also share scripts with my clients prior to filming, so they have the opportunity to provide feedback or request adjustments before I begin production—eliminating unnecessary revisions and keeping everything efficient.
Communication is another key factor in my success. Some people hesitate to ask too many questions or worry about over-communicating with clients, but I take the opposite approach. I believe most collaborations fall apart due to a lack of clear communication on either end. That’s why I keep my clients informed at every step, ask any necessary questions, and ensure we’re always on the same page.
After doing this for so long, I’ve built strong relationships with clients who consistently return for more work, which is something I take a lot of pride in. My goal isn’t just to deliver great content but to create a seamless, results-driven experience that keeps brands coming back.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’ve had my UGC Instagram account for over a year and a half, and the biggest factor in building my audience has been consistency. In 2024, I committed to posting every single day, making sure that every post had a clear purpose. I wasn’t just posting for the sake of it—I was either providing value to my community or creating content designed to attract new brand partnerships.
Building a personal brand has been one of the most effective ways for me to get discovered by brands. I regularly share my work, and because I’ve also focused on SEO strategies, brands actively searching for content creators often find me. I get a lot of questions from new creators asking how brands reach out to me and what they should do to get noticed. My biggest piece of advice is to stay active on social media. Brands want to see that you’re engaged, consistently posting, and showcasing your work.
I truly believe that a big reason I’ve been able to attract so many clients is because I’m always putting my work out there. The more visible you are, the more opportunities come your way!
