Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Delaney George. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Delaney , thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is the artist residency and retreat I’m currently involved in. This initiative is designed to provide artists with the freedom to create without the burden of survival, offering them a chance to pause and focus entirely on their craft. Located in a black-owned hotel, this space allows artists to explore their creativity in a supportive and nurturing environment. I’m incredibly proud to offer this opportunity at no cost to the artists, enabling them to work without financial pressures. This residency addresses a critical need for artists, as many struggle to find time and space to create amidst the demands of everyday life. My hope is to continue offering this invaluable resource, expanding the program to support a multitude of artists on a yearly, if not quarterly, basis. This project not only provides essential support for artists but also enriches the cultural landscape by allowing creative voices to flourish.
Delaney , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Delaney George, originally from New Orleans, is a photographer, director, and visual artist based in Los Angeles. As a curator and owner of a Black-owned gallery, George integrates her advocacy for arts, arts education, and inclusion into her practice. Her work focuses on the black femme narrative, using her conceptualized photoshoots to express themes of nostalgia, femininity, and re-imagined history.
George’s artistic process often begins with dreams or visions, which guide her creative direction. Her unique approach not only offers a contemporary perspective on fine art photography but also creates a safe space for underrepresented figures. Through her gallery and curated exhibitions, George aims to address gaps in representation and provide a platform for voices that are frequently overlooked.
Proud of her roots in New Orleans and her contributions to the arts community in Los Angeles, George is committed to creating work that resonates deeply with viewers while advancing the conversation around inclusion and representation. She wants her clients and followers to understand her dedication to both preserving cultural narratives and fostering new artistic expressions.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Having the ability to be able to communicate via multiple different outlets vs. just one. My images can communicate one or many things in many ways. Vs. the music I hear translates a different message or communication. Creating is communicating and I am blessed to have that knowledge.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Give creatives a safe space to create freely without constraint, judgment or societal pressure.
Value creatives as the communicators of each generation. We will go but art lives and tells our stories forever.
