We recently connected with Delaney Galbraith and have shared our conversation below.
Delaney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Our platform works to provide women in sports a space where they feel respected to grow their confidence, skills and success in the sports industry. The mission all started with the idea that there was no where women who like sports, work in sports or play sports to really go to to feel respected & appreciated in this industry. On top of that the sports industry is known as the most famous boys club there is and with that stigma comes the territory of not really having the resources right off the bat to make the industry successful for women too. That’s where Girls Club comes in.
A woman does not need to prove that she knows sports to anyone. She just needs to be respected.
Delaney, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I personally got my love for sports from watching Sunday football as a kid. It grew from there. I remember seeing very few women in the media for sports and as I grew up I knew I wanted to change this. I went to The University of Alabama and worked for the club hockey team all four years and this gave me the leadership skills I needed for this new venture in my life. Halfway through my senior year of college a friend and I start Girls Club as just a simple podcast. I quickly realized how much more it could be and had a gut feeling that this was the right path for me to take. So I started the business as the sole owner at 22 years old and began my journey from there. When I graduated college I began working for a few hockey teams doing foundation and community relation work, the teams were the Boston Bruins and a minor league team in the ECHL system. After a year of balancing that and running the business I decided it was time to take the business full time. In April of 2023 I finally started pursuing my full time lifestyle for my Women In Sports business and it as been incredibly hard and incredibly rewarding all at the same time.
About a year ago back in March 2022 I had the idea from a Women In Sports Conference. I knew there was nothing I had seen like it. I worked for a year on this project and found a business parter company to called Living Sport to work with me on this project. Together we created the first annual Women In Sports Conference. We hosted it July 14th-15th in Nashville, TN. We had the following organizations involved; Tennessee Titans, Nashville Predators, Nashville Superspeedway, TeamWork Online, Rocket City Trash Pandas, Nashville SC, Digital Golf Collective, and more.
I remember I stepped onto the stage to give a speech and I looked out at the 120 attendees and got chills. It was a dream I had that turned into a reality and I cannot wait to do it all again in 2024 and every year following. It is such an honor to provide resources to women in the sports industry that give them the tools they need to reach their goals and find success in whatever way they define that in their journey.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Transparency. This is the number one key for my business. I keep it honest in what I have made mistakes on, what to expect in sports and how we can create better futures.
I remember, Buffy Filippell the President of TeamWork Online, which is an incredibly big sports company in terms of the sports industry, asked me how I did in school academically. She was telling me she was impressed with my work that I had done and I remember not even thinking twice when she asked me that question. I told her the truth. And the truth is that I failed multiple classes and that I spent the better part of my junior and senior year working my way up from a 2.5 GPA. I had to fail to learn my lessons and yes it was a really difficult time in my life then but now that I am on the other side, I know what success looks like for me and I know what I need to do to get there. I also like to be honest because a lot of our following/customer base is young women in high school and college and I think it is important that they know it is ok to fail. Failure is how we find success. It’s necessary in many ways.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Being relatable is very important to me and my company platform. We like to combine pop culture and resources seamlessly. At one point in the day you may see resources for your next job application in sports and the next you may see us comparing celebrities to jobs in sports. Why? Because its fun and refreshing. Nobody wants to see the same canva templated posts, they want authenticity and that is what we are here to bring.
