Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Delaney Ann. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Delaney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I am so grateful to have parents that never pushed me in one direction or another in life. They stood on the sidelines cheering on any and every endeavor my creative heart wanted to explore. My dad ALWAYS had a guitar pick (or a few) in his wallet ready to go. Such a simple act of kindess really was so much more to me. It meant that he was at the ready, willing to help me achieve my dreams. Both my mom and dad embodied this for me since I started music at such a young age. Their support set me up to dream big as I launched my career as an adult.
Delaney, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Howdy! I am Delaney – a country music artist and writer of songs. The music I make ranges from humorous to nostalgic and emotional. I am an eighth generation Texan and these roots come out in my music.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, it always comes back to real human to human connection. I don’t believe all art is meant to be painstakingly emotional (though, I enjoy a lot of music that is) – I often lean toward songs that people can relate to and escape to. The most rewarding part of putting my heart into the world in song form, is seeing people relate an escape in real time. Live music is the BEST part of what I am so grateful I get to do. Watching eye’s light up at the ideas that came to me in the middle of the night or sparked from a conversation I had with friends. Being on a stage and watching others truly understand these words is everything to me!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
My husband is in the army – this has caused me to learn to adapt quickly but as far as music goes this can be a challenge with building a regional fanbase. We were so grateful the army brought us near Nashville for a few years where I was able to sign a record deal and start doing music full time. But, all good things must come to an end. By the grace of God, the army sent us back to my home state of Texas. I am now, in a way, at a new exciting beginning point in my journey in the Texas music scene, where my heart has always been drawn to. This pivot has felt a lot like starting over at a new school. There is so much to learn from the greats here in this state and I am so excited to see what lies ahead.
