We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Del Bloque a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Del , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Being an artist is all about taking risks, especially in Mexico. To make a living through art is an act of faith in yourself, your music, and choosing the path of taking the risk to go after what you want – not just in your career, but also experimenting with different sounds and lyrics. Opening your heart while writing and singing is something I find powerful – so it’s important to keep in mind that its always worth it to take risks.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember – playing and singing in local orchestras and choirs from my hometown, Guadalajara. Since I was an early teen, I’ve been in love with all arts but mainly with a huge passion for music. In 2018 I started making my own songs and writing lyrics – trying to find sounds that make music fun after studying and playing classical music. From then on I started developing my own sound, finding myself in different genres of music and arts. A metamorphosis happened and I took the risk to move out of my city – first in Monterrey, Mexico and then Los Angeles, where I learned more about sounds, production and how the music industry works. I recorded my first EP, called “La Vida en 808” in LA before moving back to Guadalajara where I’m currently working on new music that explores different genres, as well as mixing it with other forms of art I enjoy such as photo and film – moving around, having an open mind is what keeps my art versatile. I take pride in dedicating time to my projects – no matter how long it takes, they all have a purpose. Being a woman, taking risks and moving in acts of intuition is important to me – this connects with people, the straight forward beauty in vulnerability, the power of being free as possible.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Theres nothing more gratifying than listening to a song once its finished – when you look back and say, “Wow this was just an idea at some point..” And even more gratifying, when you put it out to the world and people connect with it – that means it fulfilled its purpose – making people come together and empathizing with a feeling.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal and vision is to climb one more step up the ladder, bring myself closer to other forms of art, other ways of making music, reaching more people, taking on more ambitious projects, as well as having more tools at my fingertips to keep creating.
