We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful DeJonna Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with DeJonna below.
DeJonna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Thank you so much for having me. When I began my working in the industry, I took that time to learn as much as I could. I always knew that I wanted to do more. I learned a a lot as I worked in several positions. I thought about starting my own business as a film producer and content creator. With the skills, and knowledge of how things need to be, I knew that it was possible. I had incredible people around me that loved to do what I do. It made it easier to come to that decision. Many of us have worked together for many years.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Growing up I was in theater. When I really young I was always in church plays, and had great parts in school plays. I went on to high school and continued in theater. Once I became an adult after having children, I wanted to start in film production. I started out as a production assistant and worked my way up from there. It has always been my dream work on one film set. I guess you can say it was on my bucket list. But here I am almost 10 years later. Now producing films, commercials, web series and etc. It’s truly amazing. As I began to gain more knowledge of how to run a film set, budgets and more I knew it was time to step out of my comfort zone. I realized this is my passion and it was time to invest in it. I have currently produced over 20 projects and I have worked on several others as a Assistant Director and Unit Production Manager. Working in this industry I have learned the importance of networking. There are so many people that I have met that I have had the pleasure to work with many times. There are two projects that I am most proud of. Sam Mendez, the producer of 1917 and the new film Empire of Light held a contest based off his film at the time 1917. This film was shot as a one shot, which is a film done as one continuous shot. He held a national contest which required film makers to create a two minute one shot. It was required to have specific elements added. The contest was put together by NBC/Universal. Part of the prize was going to LA for the premiere of 1917. We actually won the competition! To actually see one of the films our team worked so hard on get viewed and selected by someone on that level is better than I can put into words. Our most popular project with over 50 million views combined between the film and and promo is our fan series Mudblood. It is a story about a young girl in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, escaping to come to America. We follow her journey. This project took over a year to complete. It is a three part series. This was a film series we created as fans who group up reading the books and watching the movies. This was a film we made no money on, and we offered it free on YouTube. It was the most challenging project I have worked on to date. It really made us work so much harder to get the greatest end result. It takes great discipline to be able to get to the end game, which is a completed film. There are days where you are on set for long hours, maybe the weather is t the greatest and much more. If I have learned anything in this industry, it is patience.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
It’s important to remain positive! Sometimes things don’t always go as planned and that alone can be frustrating. Having someone around who is always positive, compassionate, understanding and sympathetic goes a long way. Having a moment to just laugh keeps the morale up. Letting people know you appreciate them mean so much. As a business owner showing gratitude constantly means so much.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Consistently showing up and working hard. I love being able to teach others what I have learned over time. Many withhold information and don’t like to help others get a leg up in fear of it effecting their business. When you grind and work hard your business will always be there. Helping others will help you in the long run. This has truly helped me in this market.
