We were lucky to catch up with Dejo’n Rothschild recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dejo’n , appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Although I enjoy all my projects for many reasons; I have multiple meaningful projects as they remind me of different times throughout my life. I’ll list the most meaningful two. ” Summer On Hargrave ” & my ” Pure Ambition ” series.
The idea behind ” Summer On Hargrave ” was to embrace and highlight the city that helped raised me ( Banning, Ca ) as well as inform new listeners where I come from and show my development as a creative artist. This album shows growth all around from being an artist as well as life and growing as a young man. Creatively I did everything from using our local movie theater as the cover art and naming song titles after details throughout the city.
Growing up in a smaller inner city in the Inland Empire our city doesn’t get enough recognition so I felt it was my responsibility as a creative and a sense of pride in me to execute the idea properly.
My ” Pure Ambition ” series is meaningful because this project I pushed myself artistically and was able to learn how to produce. I call it a series because i’m going to continue dropping them. As a youth I used to listen to those cd’s in wal-mart with a variety of songs ” Now, That’s What I Call Music “. The cover arts would always catch my eye and I always knew there was going to be another volume coming. So that’s where my idea initiated, but I wanted to take it a bit further. I wanted to replicate that idea so I can,
1. be consistent in dropping music.
2. hold myself accountable.
So I developed the series ” Pure Ambition”. The concept twist I have is that I produce every song. I usually outsource for production, but sometimes that results in a lag that holds you up or you might not catch a vibe and you pay for something you settled for. My artist name is Ambitious Romel and that’s where the series name title stems from.
Now I actually produce beats and that has allowed me to grow in another aspect of my career as well as help me financially, so I can invest more into myself.
Pure Ambition Volume 2 Coming 2023

Dejo’n , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
It started as a group of friends in high school and I got older kept developing and evolving. I started taking it more serious and investing more into the actual craft and understanding the business aspect. Everything i’ve learned was due to trial and error or learned out of necessity. Understanding everybody goes through things at a different pace in life but that shouldn’t hinder you. I have multiple brands.

Over the years I was able to learn many traits.
I’ve learned to become and provide services as an: recording and mix engineer, producer, video editor, photographer as well as a songwriter.
I’m constantly growing and learning. My goals are to continue growing, working hard and reaching new heights within music as well as a entrepreneur. Developing meaningful relationships throughout the business and getting better overall in life.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative to me personally, is when someone connects to your art. For example for me someone quoting my lyrics or listening/using it in there everyday life, like that’s ” crazy ” to me and that’s the stuff the helps me keep going as an artist or let’s me know i’m headed in the right direction.
Of course there’s other rewards like actually being compensated for your art and dreams which is even “crazier” but it’s not always about the money. Although, that helps me keep going as well… So overall i’m just grateful for getting support and recognition in any form, because I would do it regardless.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes, one book that I’ve recently read was ” Ego is the Enemy” by Ryan Holiday. If you get a chance to read it, its a great book on how to manage your mindset and ego throughout times of success, failure and the in between stages. Something I personally gravitated towards based on current events in my life but I defiantly recommend it.
Also ” 10,000 shots theory” by Larussell. He’s an artist out of Vallejo, Ca. I’ve been studying him as a artist for about a year now and his philosophies and actions have helped me not only believe in myself more but affirm that everything is possible when you work. Big recommendation and he offers a ” pay what you want ” method which is also innovative.
