We recently connected with Dejerae Trujillo and have shared our conversation below.
Dejerae, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
I think the best thing my mom did for me was establishing my independence at such a young age. We didn’t have a ton of money so she allowed me to do small things to earn money before I was old enough to work like selling candy in school. She also introduced me to a program to teach teens about health and safety that allowed me to earn money. I think that jump-started my entrepreneurial and sales spirit – from selling candy door to door to selling homes.

Dejerae, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Dejerae Trujillo. I’m a real estate agent in the Denver Area. I work for The Abbey Collection at Compass. I started my career at the age of 22 and have been in the industry for 8 years now. I think what sets me apart from others is the work I put in for first-time home buyers. I work with a ton of first-time home buyers and the biggest asset for them is education – making sure they understand every step of the process. The second biggest problem we are facing right now is competing in this market. As I’m sure you all know, inventory is extremely low which makes getting a home extremely difficult especially if you don’t have a ton of cash to go over appraised value. I’ve been fortunate enough to have experience in this market and know additional tricks and tools to write a competing offer without a ton of cash. A lot of buyers think this market is impossible however, I promise you it is not.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Ah, this is my favorite topic to discuss. When I first started my real estate career I didn’t have a ton of money for marketing so I had to get creative. There weren’t a ton of real estate agents utilizing social media as a marketing asset back then. I saw it as a source of free marketing and took the opportunity and ran with it. I would say I get about half of my business from Instagram or as a referral from a past Instagram lead. I’m not quite as consistent as I used to be and have definitely been working on that again. My first piece of advice would be to follow and like relevant content for your clientele. So for instance, I like to target luxury professionals in Denver so I like to go and look at everyone that has tagged themselves in places like the Denver Athletic Club or Denver Country Club then I would like the photo and follow them. It puts you on their radar and hopefully, they give you a follow back. The other piece of advice I would gice is to make your content consistent and appealing. Have quality images that captivate your audience. Video is always helpful too. Your page needs to be enticing when people click on it to check out who you are.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Keeping in touch with my clients is one of my main prospecting sources. I rely on a lot of referral business so it’s important for me to show face and maintain that relationship. I do so in several ways. I send all of my clients their annual home value every year which I find that they like. I host events once a quarter in which my clients can come and have a good time. I do things such as an ugly sweater party and summer BBQ’s. It’s a great time for me to interact with my clients as well as show them how much I appreciate them.
