We recently connected with Dejah Williams and have shared our conversation below.
Dejah, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
Being misunderstood is a sign that you’re ahead of your time. In the world of social media, I found myself often misunderstood. People see only the surface, the pictures, and the perfectly scripted captions. They don’t see the late nights, my challenges, or my passion for what I do. Being misunderstood to me is a reminder to stay true to yourself and to keep pushing. Let your authenticity shine brighter than any misconception.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
In the world of social media and content creation, I find myself often misunderstood. People only see what they want to see and think. What they see is the surface, the images, and the perfectly scripted captions. They don’t see the struggles, the constant late nights, or my passion fueling behind every post, and the challenges faced behind the scenes. But in the midst of it all, I learned that being misunderstood is a sign that you’re ahead of your time. It’s a reminder to stay true to yourself, to keep pushing boundaries, and to let your authentic self shine brighter than any misconception. Embrace being misunderstood because it’s a stepping stone towards your greatness and your uniqueness. I think of it as a reminder that your voice is powerful enough to change the world.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
To my non-creative associates, it may be challenging to grasp the ins and outs of my journey as a creative. While it may seem like a glamorous and effortless job, the reality is often quite different. The creative path is one of constant self-doubt, rejection, and vulnerability. Each piece of content we create is a piece of our soul, laid bare for the world to see and critique. We pour our hearts into our work, investing hours of brainstorming, creating, and editing to bring our visions to life. The pressure to constantly innovate and stay relevant can be overwhelming. We face moments of self-doubt, wondering if our creations are good enough, if they will resonate with our audience, or if they will be accepted by brands and clients.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist and creative is the ability to express my voice and vision through my creations, and to inspire others through my work. I believe and hope that my creativity will always have the power to affect people in positive ways, inspire them, spark conversations, and to leave a lasting impact on those who engage with my content.
