We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Deja Cain. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Deja below.
Deja , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Looking back I wish I was educated and knew more about recording in a studio and having all the steps you need done to have good quality, legit music. I Honestly feel like if I had made music when I was in high school it would of been easier to grow social media and network because well you are not an adult with other responsibilities. You go out more to kick backs and parties and it’s easy to learn how to keep up with all the trends and socialize. I truly believe everything happens for a reason and you are on your own path at your own time, but I have always wish I learned a little more in high school about music to been able to release as good of music as I have now.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
As a kids I always was asked the typical question “what do you want to be when you grow up” and I would always say “I’m gonna be famous.” I have always had a feeling that this is what I was gonna do in life. I got my own studio set up when I was a sophomore in high school, and I went and recorded my first EP in the studio the year of 2019. Music is a big investment it is not something you can be cheap with if you really want to brand and network yourself. I am proud of being an independent artist and working my butt off to do the things that need to be done and pursing my music career. I think What I am proud of most is chasing after my dream and going at my own pace.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative in your experience?
I love the love you feel from other people who have experienced the same thing as you through your music. There’s so many people that relate to the words you sing and the story you relay in your songs. The feeling of knowing that my music can touch other peoples lives with that feeling either being happy, sad, mad whatever emotion it may be, nothing can beat that emotion of being able to relate to other people on a deeper level.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Growing your following is something I still work at. What I did a lot in the beginning was find review music shows. I would look up hash tags for radio interviews, other artist from around the world that I found dope and I would let them know that. You have to engage with other people as well and show support for them and there dreams. It is actually amazing how much by networking yourself on social media you can grow. Use your resources like the Facebook adds and Instagram adds and push to the place you know you have a growing to help that. I also made my own artist cards with QR codes so when I was out in public or had a conversation and told people I do music I would give them my card!
