We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Deionnah Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Deionnah below.
Deionnah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
When I first began doing makeup, I started under the name DeeFaced By Dee. I love alliteration and the name just kind of flowed. Once I started Esthetician school, I realized I wanted my business brand name to not only showcase the services I offered but I also wanted it to have personal meaning. That’s how Jaded Angel Esthetics came to be. It’s a combination of my daughter’s and my middle names.
Deionnah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always had a passion for makeup and about 10 years ago began taking it seriously. I would always do friends and family’s makeup, as well as post tutorials on my YouTube and other social media. In January of 2021, I decided to take a leap of faith and left my job in the mortgage industry to go back to school and get my esthetics license. I believe that I cater to the individuals who like makeup and feeling glamourous but also still want to look like themselves, just enhanced. What sets me apart from other makeup artists is my desire to educate my clients on the products I use on them and also provide them with the knowledge I’ve obtained from also being a licensed esthetician. I’m incredibly proud of the community I’ve built within the industry as well as knowing my clients leave my chair satisfied each time.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
For the longest, I think I let fears and perceptions of what other people thought, effect when/what/how I posted. The most important thing is to just post. Let go of those fears and show up as your most authentic self. The right people will find you and help to get your name out there. Consistency is the biggest part in building your social media presence.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
While I’ve been doing makeup for 10 years now, my journey to become a licensed esthetician was by no means easy. What should have been a 5-6 month course, turned into almost a year. I started esthetics school in January 2020. March of 2020 is when everything shut down due to COVID. When our classes resumed in July of 2020, everything was completely different. More than half of our class dropped out of the program. All of our instructors quit due to the way they were treated by the school’s owner. We weren’t allowed to do services on the general public due to COVID restrictions. It seemed like at every turn, there was a roadblock trying to keep us from our end goal of completion and getting our licenses. From that though, I’ve formed an incredible bond with several ladies & I did finish and get my license.
