Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Deidra Hepp. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Deidra, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
My husband and I were going to a rodeo and I had gotten a new outfit. I tried it on with my cowboy boots and they looked too plain. I love bling and had the idea to make a rhinestone bracelet for my boots. My husband thought the “bauble” was cool and suggested I make them and sell them. After consulting with my fashion forward daughter, I decided to go for it. Just about everyone wears one type of boot or another. This is a way to dress up any boot. I have boot bracelets for all occasions. Western, weddings, dressy, steam punk or motorcycle mamas, there’s a bauble for you!
Deidra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always been a person who admires fashion. I’ve spent a good deal of my life helping others to reach their potential, from esthetician to fashion tips and facial products.
I want everyone to feel special about themselves and this is one of the ways I do that.
Accessories allow women to change their look on a budget… Boot Scootin Baubles boot bracelets allows you to change your look to fit your mood while being conscious about your finances.
Each of my boot bracelets is handcrafted so no two are exactly alike. That way a woman can show her unique style.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I find the best way to market my business is from current clients taking photos of their own boot bracelets and posting them on social media. I also offer my bracelets at vendor shows and will be available at the Mosaic Market in Arlington.
I have a website and a shopify account and can ship my baubles to anyone in the United States.
Each boot bracelet I sell comes with an extra “gift” to show my appreciation and encourage women in their lives.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I married my husband 12 years ago, he was doing short term contract work. We lived in 4 States our first 3 years of marriage.
At that time, I was practicing Esthetics. It was rough starting a job when I knew we would be moving in 6-18 months depending on the length of the contract.
Luckily, American Airlines offered him a full time position in Dallas, when his contract with them in Phoenix was done.
I felt starting over in Esthetics at the age of 58 was not the path I wanted to take. A friend was just about to help me get started in the hospitality business when COVID hit.
Once COVID was over, I started doing a few jobs with Destination Management companies here and there. I’m now working for several companies and absolutely love it! It was scary to make such a drastic change but we’ll worth it!
This new career has given me the opportunity to not only meet some wonderful new people but also gives me the freedom to make my own schedule.
