We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Defacto Thezpian. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Defacto below.
Alright, Defacto thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am happy because I am pursuing something that brings me great joy. Fills my heart to the brim being able to do it in it’s full capacity. Sure, the road is tough and long but that doesn’t take away from how music makes me feel. How it ignites and excites me at all times. How it pushes me to be better and greater. I could never get truly stop being a creative, because.. how can you stop being yourself ?
I once picked up a warehouse job. Only had it for a couple of months, because the entire time I was there I was miserable ! Not only were the working conditions inhumane and unsavory. It also deprived me of energy and the proper creative juices to keep doing what I do. It wasn’t a mistake, however, because it realigned me. Able to remind myself what I really and truly hold dear.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
The name is.. Defacto Thezpian. Short-hand for real actor. I did theatre my entire high-school career and still can act from time to time. Rapping is what I’m known for. Being a storyteller with high emotion and high energy. What I also do, is teach creative rap, produce and song write.
Music, is something that I have always had an affinity for. Becoming a rapper was a natural progression from performing poetry in school. After, being a rapper was the official path that I had chosen.. I pursued it relentlessly. Still do. I try to pursue not only a successful rap career.. but to also become one of the greats. Every song I record. Every lyric I write. It’s all pushing to become something bigger than myself. I want to exist throughout the entire pantheon of Hip Hop.
Some of my most proud moments were, dropping my latest music visual ” ketchup “. Which, I feel is the most accurate portrayal of myself as an artist. When I released my entirely self produced album last year. Talent Isn’t Everything. Which, I was able to make a high amount of sales on even without a music video. Finally, when I won Best Male Hip Hop Artist of the year at Carolina Music Awards.
Hopefully.. some of what you read here will inspire you to take a gander at Defacto and his works. Hopefully.. you enjoy.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice
Ehh. My view is.. it’s cool but isn’t for me. I prefer the tangible. The physical gems and priceless works you can actually hold and cherish.
I did release for a short period, a DFT ( Defacto Fungible Token ) with the deluxe copy of my last album. Something that held enough value to grant free access to a future show.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
This will be quick.
First time I ever had a car of my own was gifted to me on my birthday. I was working on a mixtape at the time. Prior to this body of work, I had never had anything professionally mixed and mastered. As my hunger grew to keep pushing music, so did my knowledge of how to approach it. I realized that I needed my stuff professionally engineered, but didn’t have money. ( This was my first time trying to pursue music full time ). I then decided to take the car gifted to me, and sell it.
Used the money from the car sale, to fund my mixtape being mixed and mastered. It put me without any means of travel for awhile, but to this day I consider the investment worth it.
