Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to DEF davyne & King Delane. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, DEF davyne & King Delane thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
(King Delane) Any investment is risky, so I’m not sure what our worst investment is. But I know our best investment was ourselves.
DEF davyne & King Delane, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
(DEF davyne) Raised on Golden Era rap, we value lyricism and rhyme form in our music. Always adapting to modern sounds while maintaining our core values, is how we have had longevity in a region that few have seen success in. Having our fans grow with us as we elevate our messages over time has helped expand our fan base worldwide.
(King Delane) We’ve been making music for most of our lives. Over the years you see and learn a lot. So being authentic and having a great work ethic are key factors in success. The hip hop culture is forever evolving, you have to adapt or you become irrelevant. Being around this long you learn how to stand out in an industry that’s so trendy. But being around this long has also gave me the opportunity to collaborate with some really amazing and popular artists, including a few that I grew up listening to.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
(DEF davyne) Being able to share my strengths and vulnerabilities through my art, and making real connections with fans who appreciate my authenticity. Participating in community events, while also being an active role model for my children makes me feel successful.
(King Delane) I think hearing yourself on the radio is extremely rewarding. I’ll never forget the first time I heard my song on the radio. So is getting paid, I love making money from my craft. But also learning how many other artists look up to you.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
(DEF davyne) In the beginning, I used music to transform my pain into art. When I realized I had talent, I used my skill to provide for my family, and inspire others to share their gifts. In the end, it’s about what I’ve left behind after I’m gone. Making music that reflects that is my main goal.
(King Delane) I want to influence and inspire. I’ve always been a leader, so using my music as a platform to do just that is part of what drives me. I want to give the people something they can relate to, but feel in their soul. But most of all I want to leave a legacy for my kids, my family, and anyone who has followed and supported me through my journey.
