Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to DeeLeww. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
DeeLeww, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on thus far is releasing ‘A Short Read To Help You Grieve’. In 2012 I lost my dad. In 2022 I lost one of my best friends, Donell. I thought I healed after my dad but once I lost Donell, I cracked completely open and realized I was not healed at all. I battled internally, becoming a high functioning depressed person. I went on to do a 6 month tour with the Harlem Globetrotters and in the midst of performing every day and figuring out the pieces to my soul every night, I found inspiration to create what I wish I had… a relatable voice. A Short Read To Help You Grieve is the book I wish I had. So you ask why this project is meaningful? It is meaningful because it is a project that has and will continue to help many on their grief journey and ease some of the pain along the way.
DeeLeww, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I always been in music. I grew up in performing arts schools, interned for Sony Music, worked at iHeartMedia, DJ’d for the WNBA and currently the first woman DJ for the Harlem Globetrotters. Though most of my roles includes music at the forefront, I have also been fortunate to serve as the Creative Director for the Harlem Globetrotters as well. All of these positions I’ve held looks amazing on paper but what many people didn’t know is I was battling depression as well. For many years I worked and surpassed my depression but while on tour this year, I realized I cannot suppress it anymore. I had no idea that facing my pain and making peace with my voids would lead me to writing A Short Read To Help You Grieve, which can be found in several churches, gift shops and Amazon. Your purpose is often found in the place of your pain, and I’m grateful I befriended my pain because now I am able to help others. In the midst of my darkest moments, I didn’t know what I needed until it presented itself so hopefully A Short Read To Help You Grieve will be the help many didn’t know they needed.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I recently had the honor of MCing a tech conference and this was one of the topics we spoke about. I personally think NFTs can be the solution for creators taking back ownership and being paid what they are deserved. NFTs have the power of eliminating a lot of middle men. HOWEVER, in order for this to happen, consumers MUST be educated on NFTs because lack of knowledge leads to lack of participation, which is why NFTs are not as valuable to the average consumer today. The average consumer wants their purchasing process to be easy. Anything hard is a turn off. I believe once the learning curve decreases and NFTs are incorporated into every day living, their value will be established and they will be considered beneficial. Until then, I think they will only be known for the apes, which holds no value in most people’s society.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Taking full advantage of being born a human being. I fall short sometimes whenever I get into a routine and forget I have the capability to change any aspect of my life that I want. Being born a human being is the highest form of manifestation possible. I’ve said this in my Temple Tuesday before but I am grateful I was not born a cow. I have nothing against cows but a cow cannot wake up and decide they do not want to live on the farm any longer or decide they do not want to work as a cow any more. Keeping this in mind keeps me grounded and grateful. This has been driving my creative journey. Having the ability to create is not only spiritual and a gift but also my duty as a human. We are creators. We create art. We create solutions. We create tools. We create what the world needs and if we disobey our call to create, we not only do a disservice to ourselves, but to the world. I mean imagine if the creator of the internet never answered their call to create? A lot of our lives would be different. Someone’s destiny can be tied to my creation and that is why every day I do my best to honor my duty as a creator so when it’s my time to ascend, I will not have any creations left inside of me.
