We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dee Ware. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dee below.
Dee , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
Ive been a Personal Stylist for more than a decade and I have always added layers to my business. After 5 years I adding in Houston Shopping Tours because there was a need to create community while supporting community through building confidence in others. Recently, I created a concept called Style Mapping which is a simplified system of curating capsule wardrobes for my clients virtually. Currently I have layered in Creative Brand Styling as many of my clients are entrepreneurs and business professionals. I love creative directing branding shoots and curating digital strategies for lifestyle brands. This is the perfect combination for me. I can give a client a makeover and then do the same for their business. Also, I can essentially do all of this from anywhere which makes it possible for me to serve more clients. The digital branding is in the soft launch stage and I am only focusing on fashion, beauty, lifestyle and hospitality brands.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started styling clients while working as a Visual Manager for several retail brands. I started by writing fashion and style articles in local publications as well as styling for music videos and designer runway collections. I decided to focus on Personal Styling because I wanted to work with “real people” who have real lives and needed actionable solutions for building sustainable wardrobes. I am most proud of being able to be a part of helping to build confidence in others as well as to educate them on processes that they can use forever to improve their quality of life.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I have always been a very resourceful person, however, I would say that staying current on technology and applications that can help to streamline your business is key. Also, recognizing ares where you’re struggling to be consistent in and bringing in a resource to help with that. For example, current, I have been using AI to help me stay consistent with newsletters and blogs as well as client surveys.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One major lesson that I had to learn was to stop taking consuming so much information to the point that it completely overwhelmed me and I didn’t know where to start in the execution process. I was downloading every “freebie”, e-book and listening to podcasts and watching tutorials, etc and when the time came for me to execute and implement everything that I had learned, it was difficult for me. One of the best things that I did was hire an accountability party that was well versed in my goals. This is why I offer accountability partnership services through my branding company. Having someone the help develop a strategy and then have scheduled weekly calls with them to support you is priceless. This is very different from just talking to family and friends about your business goals and your progress. Also, those closest to us have a tendency to be biased and not challenge you when you need it the most.
