Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dee Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Dee, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

In 2013, after I became a new mother with a closet full of like-new designer clothes, shoes, and accessories. I wanted to purge my closet of the items that didn’t fit my lifestyle as a new mommy. However, I wanted my luxury items to go to good homes and other like-minded fashionistas who could appreciate the curated luxury items from my closet. I also wanted to honor my first brick-and-mortar boutique, Luxe Boutique. After some thought, I merged my name with the name of my first business to create Closet D Luxe.

Dee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I am the founder of Closet D Luxe online women’s boutique and author of The Luxe Life: A Guide to Launching a Fabulous and Thriving Online Boutique.

My first customer experiences were with co-workers and friends who admired my fashion style and would often enlist my assistance with photoshoots and personal shopping.

I developed a love for luxury fashion at an early age and after earning Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Master of Arts in Leadership degrees from St. Mary’s College of California, established Closet D Luxe in 2014 an online women’s boutique.

Closet D Luxe offers fab pre-loved authentic luxe designer accessories, vintage and contemporary women’s clothing, as well as Closet D Luxe signature lifestyle products, and personal shopping services.

Prior to launching Closet D Luxe, I grew my reputation for exceptional customer service and providing a personalized shopping experience by participating in pop-up trunk shows throughout California.

Closet D Luxe also empowers women of all ages to Thrive & Be Fabulous! We are excited about the recent debut line of lifestyle products Thrive & Be Fabulous inspired by Dee’s book The Luxe Life: A Guide to Launching a Fabulous & Thriving Online Boutique.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?

Authoring my book The Luxe Life: A Guide to Launching a Fabulous & Thriving Online Boutique has allowed me to share my business experiences of operating online and storefront boutiques. Sharing my story empowers aspiring entrepreneurs to start their businesses. This has also resulted in my company offering business boutique workshops exclusively for new business owners who desire one-on-one personalized coaching after reading my book.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

Covid caused a great shift in life for me like many others in the world. During Covid reading about and seeing so much tragedy and despair caused me to be more intentional in donating my time and resources to my community once stay-at-home restrictions were lifted.

I continue to donate regularly to organizations that serve communities in need. I also enjoy participating in panels and youth-focused events to connect with young adults and pour into their lives as often as I can.
