We recently connected with Dee Pearson and have shared our conversation below.
Dee, appreciate you joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
If I could go back in time, I definitely would have started my business years ago. I have always had a passion for creating memories or making any moment a memorable/meaningful one. As a young adult, I would maximize any moment of celebration or just pure joy. Whether it was at family reunions, Holiday gatherings, or at church, I always enjoyed experiencing life in different ways. At the age of 19, I never thought of being a business owner, I only wanted to have my own team to inspire, train, motivate, encourage, and promote. Any job I obtained at that time would get 1000% of me with the intent to one day be a manager of my own team. I’ve been in leadership at Whataburger, Sonic, Target, Walmart, Wells Fargo, and Progressive with almost 20 years of experience. Fast forward to today, five years of being a business owner and still in the corporate world has become more challenging to say the least. Why, because I love what I do so much to where it’s all I want to do, every day, all day. I could’ve started my business earlier but I’m grateful for the process.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?

How did you build your audience on social media?
I created a Facebook first and then an Instagram. Next, I set a goal to be active on both platforms. Then, paid attention to how people interacted and watched the effects on both channels. I also started being more active in the community and attending networking events to connect as well. When it comes to social media, authenticity is key and by strategically engaging with my audience, that’s how it was built.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Great question. The only lesson that stands out to me is that I can not do this by myself. I had to unlearn the idea of feeling like I can do it all and be successful while doing so because I’m a strong willed person. It is okay to ask for help and delegate. Being the oldest of four, developed a great amount responsibility and with that, you feel you have to do everything because no one will do it for you. I have learned that in being a business owner, you must have a team behind you. We can not do it alone so do not try. Ask questions, be open to feedback, and be vulnerable enough to seek help. Trust me, it’ll help in the long run.
