Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dee Mount. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
While I was in Bali at my neighborhood coffee shop, I randomly met this other creator on his way out of Bali and back to Germany. After hearing his stories about his travels and the sights he had the chance of seeing. This one in particular that got me really excited about going was this MAGICAL place called Amed. After this conversation, I left and went back to my villa grabbed my camera and motorcycle keys and left on my bike, 3hr to Amed. On my way there I got stuck in this HEAVY, cold tropical rainstorm. The worst ive ever experienced. I had no idea what to do. My gear was getting wet. I couldn’t see the road. It was night time. Just the worst conditions. While having my freak out, I realized I left my entire wallet back in Caangu (my villa). I had no cash. They didn’t do apple pay. I was stranded and in the rain. This random Indo family ran to me sitting next to my bike getting poured on and invited me into their home, next to their fire where they fed and clothed me. It rained for days. It felt like we just sat and shared stories.
Dee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
It all started when I was working for the broadcasting team when I was in High School. This is where I found my passion for creating and doing it with a team. I was also one of the best football players in the state and one of the fastest hurdlers ( 110m hurdles) in the country with scholarships to go D1 in both sports. I decided on football and to play for the University of Louisville. When I arrived in college I immediately enrolled in classes that involved film, video, and media communications and around my sophomore year (after starting as a true freshman) my passion for creating started to grow and leak into what I originally came to school for and that’s to play football. My coaches gave me an ultimatum, play football or play with cameras and pay for your own school…I chose the first option. I always made a promise that the first chance I get, I will reinvest in myself and pick up where I left off and in my second year of my NFL career (Indianapolis Colts), I bought my first camera and class and haven’t looked back. Since then I’ve worked for brands such as American Cancer Society and Harpers Bazaar (an international fashion magazine). I have shot celebrities such as Michael Vick and Venus and Serena Williams. I have shot and SOLD my first short film centered around Men’s Mental Health (Seek Change on Youtube). This is my passion and I cannot see myself doing anything else.
I’ve been blessed to find the best creatives to be a part of my team and we come together and find the best way to grow our clients brand, through video. We have you and your company covered for social media marketing campaigns, corporate testimonials, and brand videos and much more. We go above and beyond to achieve our clients goals.
Any advice for managing a team?
Don’t always try to be perfect. Admit to mistakes and always be transparent.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative?
For me, I often struggle with words and telling people stories, there is no better feeling than being able to shoot something and communicate my vision using video and watching it get well received.
