We were lucky to catch up with Dee Chambers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I always think about if I had started on my initial dream of being a radio personality sooner. My Mother was against it and I somehow finessed an internship at the local radio station and saw how much money was being made and that was NOT enough for me. Ended up having a career in IT which provided me a salary I could provide a good life for myself and media came back around. This time it was pure passion and I think that’s the best way to do it. I work on my terms and it’s PURE JOY! I love what I do in sports media and I get to go it when I want and how I want!!
Dee, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a Sports Personality and it’s something that bit me when I truly fell in love with the NFL & The Pittsburgh Steelers. Talking about something I was so passionate about became so easy. It helped me learn more about sports in general, learn how to deliver quality content to audiences. Then I got bit by the interview bug. I love interactions, I love creating moments and sharing them with an audience. It’s so fun to me I can do it just about everyday and it never feels like work. I am proud when there is a product or piece o put together makes people smile or educates them in some way. It feels like a service and it’s truly fulfilling.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Consistency… showing up every morning for my sports show “Sports&Coffee” no matter how many people showed up. Or grew from 5 people up hundreds of people a morning.
Show up and show your consistency.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I knew editing and applications like cap cut/ canva were round earlier in life. I would had so much fun and more time learning to use those tools.
