Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dedrick Rogers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Dedrick thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Being a full time artist has came at the expense of trial and error. A constant roller-coaster ride of ups and downs. Lots of uncertainties but yet a sense of fulfillment. Having my work displayed in a art gallery was a major milestone for me.I attribute my success to consistently and a strong support system. As I continue this journey, I realized everything from rained out festivals to haggling customers is all part of the process. I never agreed with to term starving artist .I realized that there is a market for everything. To be successful you have to find your market.

Dedrick, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always had a passion for creating art. Starting off I would paint portraits of people for free to sharpen my craft. That lead to a lot of notarity and new clients inquiring my work. I established myself as a artist who captured the essence of what each client requested. Paying attention to detail became my specialty. Seeing the reactions from my artwork still makes my adrenaline flow. Those art the moments that make everything worthwhile.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Society has long depicted art as a straving industry. We can put that sigma to rest by educating our youth about the value of art. Investing in new talent, giving larger platforms to make creators work more accessible.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Starting off I wasn’t very active on social media. I didn’t grow up in that era so I didn’t realize how beneficial it was. The first time a posted my work I got a positive response. As I begin posting more I developed more followers.I wanted to introduce the person behind the art, so started a video of me painting from beginning to end each week. While painting I was able to speak to my followers and gave content that was inspiring to others.
