Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Debra Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Debra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? We’d love to hear the backstory the illustrates how you grew the firm
As most people know, starting a business seems like a piece of cake but it’s not. It’s hard work, late nights, and some disappointments. When I first started my own business, I had no clue what I was doing. I just knew at the time that I loved producing events, designing, and teaching so I went with my passion. I didn’t know the journey was going to be rough for me. I reached out for help, and no one wanted to help me or show me the ropes. So, I had to cry and pray just to get an answer and some direction. I had to discover the power within and teach myself the ends as well as outs to business. From marketing, to sales, booking clients, accounting you name it I learned. Through the years I perfected what I learned, then got certified as a business and marketing coach. I overcame being looked over, talked about, and mistreated in this business. I knew deep down inside that God had a greater purpose for me and it was my job to walk it out. So, when it was time to expand my business, I felt a little fear, but I still had to push past it and just go for it. I currently have an academy where I teach and coach other business owners so they can be equipped to grow and be successful. Because I stepped out and expanded the business, I have mentored over 260 business owners, spoke on several platforms, hosted 5 major conferences, started my own magazine called enVisioned and poured into 1000’s of entrepreneurs through my lives and videos. My strategy that I live by is FAITH.
Debra, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m the CEO & Visionary for Premiere Planners Experience. My passion for planning as well as teaching has led me to coach many event industry professionals as they launch and revamp their businesses. I’m self-taught. I’ve been to school and became an expert in the areas of marketing, social media, and mentoring. My drive is to see others excel in their business by gaining financial stability and long-lasting success. My 3 power words are Purpose, Position & Expansion.
I empower others to find their purpose in life and work through all the disappointments in life. To take their position in what God has called them to do and no matter what never give up on the vision. Don’t ever be afraid to expand on the dreams and Vision that you carry because wealth is your portion.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
There are several lessons that I had to unlearn through my journey. One was keeping your head down and your mouth closed. This hurt me a lot because I would never speak up for myself, so I had to endure job abuse. Another one is that I was only good enough to make $15 to $20 an hour. I was taught that this was a jackpot, not knowing that my skills were able to unlock major doors and high price clients. I never knew I had what to take to own my own until now. I was taught to survive until I learned that I was created to thrive in life.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My openness, honesty, creativity, passion to see others grow, my faith in God and my willingness to always help.
