We recently connected with Debra Roark and have shared our conversation below.
Debra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
When I decided to scale up my business was very necessary. I was in a very nice comfortable space prior to my current location, during COVID I was thinking of doing an event to help other entrepreneurs in growing their businesses along with myself. The idea was to find an event space where we could set up and sell our products to the public, network and etc. So I was driving around and saw this sign that said they had temporary leases on a property, given the fact that a lot of businesses were closing – landlords aren’t making any money. I made the call and asked about the building, it was available. So that set everything in motion… I made flyers and started going LIVE on social media, requesting vendors. and promoting the event. Every weekend we had different vendors. After it was over, I tried to go back to my original location – I could not set up in my space because during that time my business had grown so much… I needed a larger location. After much prayer, I made that move to my current location – and my business has been flourishing ever since. Stepped out on faith – I’m so happy, things have been growing expeditiously.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
You have to RESPECT your business first. When you show respect and loyalty to your business, others will follow suit. That includes getting up early in the morning, staying up late at night, and maybe not hanging out as much, because you have to plan and strategize for upcoming events, dates, and sales. Stay ready so don’t have to get ready.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Word of mouth has helped in building my business. I treat everyone with love and respect. I truly love people and it’s a NO JUDGEMENT zone. You never know what someone is going through and sometimes – showing up for them may be that factor to keep them from falling off that edge.
