Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Debra Hoyt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Debra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
We were living in Austin, MN and driving two hours one way to attend church in the Minneapolis area. The Lord had been teaching us to go deeper in His Word and live by faith in every area of our lives. Midway through my sixth year teaching in the local high school I felt the Lord tell me it was time to step into the next part of our journey. After my husband and I prayed we felt the release and I put in my resignation for the school even though I didn’t have a new position yet.
Two weeks later a teaching position was posted at the high school attached to our church in Minneapolis. I was offered an interview. During our talks the principal asked if I would be interested in teaching Bible instead of social studies. I was so excited. I said, “YES!” They also told me a benefit for the teachers was that our kids would be able to attend the Chrisitan school for 1/2 price. We immediately put our house on the market and began looking for a new home.
There were none in the area close to the school that we could afford so we ended up about thirty minutes away, which was still a blessing.
This part of our journey really solidified the truth that when God speaks it is our job to believe and recieve. God is our supply and He is always faithful to provide when He calls us to do something.
Debra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My husband, Jeff and I are the creators of Hoyts Hindsights and Sow the Word—two faith-driven platforms committed to inspiring families, empowering communities, and pointing hearts to Christ through creative storytelling, biblical teaching, and practical tools for life and discipleship.
My journey into this work started as a teacher, a mother, and a ministry leader who saw firsthand how much our families and churches needed accessible, Christ-centered resources to navigate modern-day challenges—especially around issues like identity, purpose, parenting, and even the dangers facing our kids online. I was compelled to step into the gap, using the gifts God had given me—writing, teaching, and creating—to make biblical truth relatable and usable for everyday people.
Through Hoyts Hindsights, I write and publish a variety of creative works including:
— Six Daily Devotionals and journals that equip individuals to grow in their walk with Christ
— YouTube teachings on parenting and marriages
I also write and publish a children’s book series called The Adventures of Little Miss Sue.
— Three books so far with simple life lessons.
— Educational activity books for kids that combine fun with meaningful learning
— Printable and digital resources for parents, teachers, and ministry leaders
— Adventure Crew membership opportunity on our website www.LittleMissSue.com
At the same time, Sow the Word functions as the ministry side of my work, where I develop curriculum, lead outreach efforts, and partner with churches and organizations to educate and equip others—particularily around faith-based parenting, family and marriage discipleship, anti-human trafficking awareness, and online safety. A portion of all proceeds goes toward supporting missionaries and frontline anti-trafficking work, which is a core part of our mission.
Our mission statement at Sow the Word is: TO EQUIPE THROUGH TEACHING, DISCIPLESHIP, & FAMILY ENGAGEMENT, WHILE SUPPORTING MISSIONARIES & ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING EFFORTS
What sets my work apart is that it’s not just content—it’s intentional ministry. Everything I create is rooted in Scripture, prayed over, and designed with real families and communities in mind. I strive to make complex or overwhelming topics—like child exploitation or biblical discipleship—accessible, age-appropriate, and solution-oriented.
I’m most proud of the moments when I see a parent feel empowered to have a hard conversation with their child, a child light up from a story that teaches godly values, or a church take active steps toward equipping their congregation. That’s when I know the work is worth it.
If you’re a parent, a pastor, a teacher, or just someone passionate about truth and transformation—I want you to know this: You’re not alone in the fight to raise up the next generation in faith and wisdom. Whether through books, resources, speaking engagements, or ministry partnerships, I’m here to serve, equip, and walk alongside you.
Together, we can sow the Word faithfully, one story, one lesson, and one heart at a time.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I am continually listening to online teaching on potential and purpose.
Some of the best books I have read include:
Myles Munroe — ‘Becoming a Leader’; ‘Maximizing Your Potential’
Kenneth Hagin — ‘Plans, Purposes and Pursuits’
Mike Murdock — ‘The Assignment – The Dream & The Destiny’
Jonathan Shuttlesworth — Desicions Determine Destiny
I try to listen to Myles Munroe as much as possible. Globally, he was one of the top teachers on leadership. His lectures and trainings were given to for profit organizations, political leaders, and faith-based entities all around the world.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
For success in my field, or any field, I believe that a heart that is sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit and walking in line with the Word of God is essential. The only reason all of my adult children and grandchildren are in love with Jesus and walking in faith today, is because I relied on the Holy Spirit to guide me in my parenting. The only reason my husband and I are more in love today than when we got married is becuase God is the foundation of our relationship and every thing we do is based on His teaching and leading.
The motto I try my best to live by is: Being successful is great! But helping others be successful is truly amazing.
Jesus placed the needs of the world above His own so that we can walk in peace, joy and wholeness. I try my best to follow in His footsteps and do the same to the best of my ability.
