We were lucky to catch up with Deborian Ramsey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Deborian, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I got suspended a lot in school so I was home a lot I couldn’t go anywhere so I stayed in the living room were my dad would bring his friends over and they would make songs and just dancing around getting lit just seeing that process and how fun it was made me interested growing up I listened to a lot of hip-hop so I knew it was some kind of help with my anger music helped a lot so I just thought hey why not give this a try so I started just making rhyming words on a paper in class, on the stairs, on the porch, in the living room anywhere I could just be me and I would just show my dad and he would give his advice on it and overtime it just stick with me it was my calling so I just picked up that phone and went with the flow I started writing at 6 made my first song at 14 now I’m 18 and still doing music soon to be known soon to be the next upcoming legend in the music industry

Deborian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Growing up I was a bad kid I was an angry kid everybody didn’t like.me it seemed I had no future really my teachers thought the same they didn’t hesitate to tell me that either my dad he’s a rapper I got suspended a lot so I was home a lot I couldn’t go anywhere so I stayed in the living were my dad would bring his friends over and they would make songs and just dancing around getting lit just seeing that process and how fun it was made me interested growing up I listened to a lot of hip-hop so I knew it was some kind of help with my anger music helped a lot so I just thought hey why not give this a try so I started just making rhyming words on a paper in class, on the stairs, on the porch, in the living room anywhere I could just be me and I would just show my dad and as a kid I didn’t know what I was doing so he would laugh cause it wasn’t good I knew it myself so I would laugh to but that would lead me to get better overtime I just kept practicing and practicing and I actually payed off my dad got me a mic and pit me on with garage band and I actually started to record songs I was 14 when I made my first song I started writing at 6 over time my lyrics got better I had a better mindset and I met new people and had gotten new opportunities my music started to blow and I need a better program so my dad hooked me up with protocols were it all up after that I started to get into distrokid and lwarning everything i needed to know about it and i started uploading to that and my music ended up on all platforms gaining that brought my music up I started to gain viewings and I started to blow in some ways I earned over 67k on some songs here and 15k on YouTube here and there im 18 now and I’m still making music dropping every 3-5 weeks meeting new people along the way im yet to do a music video but since I’m in the media academy at fremont highschool located in Oakland ca I’ve learned all the steps I need to produce, edit and distribute a professional music video I’ve grown so much over the years and all because I stepped through that door music has been my calling now I’m going to college for music production were I will still be learning more to better myself if you seen me when I was younger you wouldn’t think I made it were im at now you would think it oudl end up in jail or dead even somewhere im not suppose to be now in 2024 you would think I would be successful upcoming rapper soon to be known im just waiting for that one song to blow or that one person to hear or see me and sign me and I go up even more and become what I’ve always wanted a be an artist a sensation I am more then a 18 year old multi racial African American child from the hood I know that one day everybody Finna know who ddub is I know one day everybody gonna be bumping my music I know that one day ima be performing from concert to concert in different states I know that one day were i stand today ima be a legend with a story to be heard.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The reward I gain from making music, uploading music, posting snippets is just seeing people’s reactions to it saying that it’s lit it’s fire it’s a banger all that just knowing that people mes with my music gets me going it makes me wanna go harder to become more then I am now the kroe people interact with me the more I would wanna do what I gotta do to impress and get some traction I don’t make music for money I do it cause I love the feeling of that music coursing through my veins I love that feeling when you know you made a hit song and then posting it and gaining some traction from it and in the back of your mind saying “I knew it” just being able to show off my craft really makes me haply even knowing I got people wanting to do songs with me and having my own sets of haters even tho it’s bad to have haters cause that could mess with your head but for me I see that as a way to pull through Im always sayin “they hate us cause they ain’t us” or “there’s always gonna be a person that’s hates the shit you got cause they can’t do it themselves why take jealousy seriously when you good at something” having that in my mind just makes me wanna push through it all and really blow up to prove any doubters wrong

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
People always say a rappers goals to get money, go on tour, get female and so on and so forth but for me it’s just to gather up traction so people can see that anyone can dream a dream and make that dream come true people doubted my dramas people hated on my dream people didn’t think I would make it to 18 people thought I wouldn’t be nothing my goal is to show off my talents to the world so I can show my love of music I don’t care about the money the money just comes with the talent and actually if you think about it the only way a rapper gets money is from the traction of the audience from merch, to streams ETC if it ain’t for the fans a rapper wouldn’t be getting money I just wanna show that a person like me can have a dream and accomplish it prosper from negativity and accomplish greatness
