We recently connected with Deborah T. Scott and have shared our conversation below.
Deborah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Is your team able to work remotely? If so, how have you made it work? What, if any, have been the pitfalls? What have been the non-obvious benefits?
This is a new time and a new era where innovation, convenience, virtual meetings, and work-life balance have truly changed what many once knew as your ordinary in-office, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm work shift, creating this more feasible and relatable office space.
Being in the Real Estate industry, remote work is a must, there’s no way around it. Prior to my husband setting up my in-home office, my goals were simple: it must be functional, comfortable, where I’m able to minimize distractions, focus on time management, have an easy workflow, have successful virtual meetings, and the ability to get super creative. Some helpful items and my ultimate favs in my office are positive affirmations, a candle, an LED ring light, and sticky notes. Lots of sticky notes!
Remote-work is so important in this industry as I’m consistently engaging with folks online. Having the flexibility to answer emails, texts, and DMs from home or while I’m out on the go is essential.
I don’t really see any disadvantages to working from home, technology has made things so much easier. Of course, I miss seeing my colleagues daily but I’m able to catch up with them at our office meetings, lunch, and scheduled events.

Deborah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Deborah T. Scott. I’m a licensed Real Estate Agent here in the great state of Texas. I’ve been licensed for a little over 15 years, 8 of which focuses on New Construction Homes and Apartment Locating. I have a wonderful husband Dre, and together we have a blended crew; Brieanna 22, Bradley 15, Shane 10, and Hailey 10 (not twins).
I needed to find a career that coincided with my personality. I have the gift of gab so I enjoy making people laugh, encouraging and educating people on what will be the most exciting lifestyle change and or biggest investment in their life.
Thinking back to the beginning, I have to say that I’m so proud of the relationships I have made and continue to make. The educational opportunities are truly valuable and each time a class is available, I’m there. The lessons I’ve learned while obtaining my masters degree, helped to promote my professionalism, consistency, and dedication in this industry.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
There are a few books and podcasts that have impacted my day to day routine. I’m an avid reader. I enjoy self help, self awareness, motivational and business books. With my most recent books, The Millionaire Agent by Dave Keller and It Didn’t Start With You by Mark Wolynn, both purchased by my husband. My husband also has me hooked on Dave Ramsey, his podcasts are amazing! As I’m listening to Dave Ramsey along with a few other podcasts for my business plan, I’ve learned how to navigate my own personal financial and real estate portfolios.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
My best source of new clients have come from referrals, repeat clients, social media and multiple streams of advertising. Wherever I can advertise, I will. Wherever I can discuss real estate, I will. Whenever someone has real estate questions, I am available to answer, and if I don’t know, I will surely find out!
You can usually catch me at a class, touring apartment communities or at builder events.
I love my city and I love my career!
