Alright, Deborah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
If I could go back in time, I would’ve started my business sooner. If I had started sooner, I would be much more successful than I am at this moment. However, I lacked the confidence and motivation that I needed to start the business. At the time that I had this amazing idea, I was just not prepared to execute it. I eventually started my business in 2022 because I was in a better place financially, mentally and physically. In 2022, I was in a better position to run a business and trust the process.
Deborah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Deborah Olushina and I’m the founder of Body & Mind Spa. We provide skincare products to help our customers on their skincare journey. Our products are formulated with ingredients that will help kickstart your skincare journey or improve your existing skincare regimen. Our products give us a competitive edge because we use ingredients that are unique and unconventional (and have great skincare benefits), to provide our customers the best results. I’m most proud of the brand awareness we’ve gained so far. As a small business, it’s hard to develop credibility or name recognition, but I’m proud of our progress. I want our supporters to know that we work hard to provide them with the best products and we hope to keep making them proud. I also want them to know that we will do our very best to make Body & Mind Spa a global sensation, so we can provide more access to our products around the world.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to learn was that you can’t make business decisions off of emotion. I had to unlearn the habit of being a people-pleaser in regards to how I run my business. In my first year of doing business, I quickly learned that you have to do what’s best for the business regardless of what anybody thinks. I went into business with people that I trusted and cared about, but things did not turn out how I imagined. In business, people will try to take advantage of you, but it’s important to trust your gut. No one has your best interest at heart like you do so it’s important to do what you feel is best.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Social media is the most effective strategy for building brand awareness and growing our clientele. We live in an era that revolves around social media. Most of the things we know are things we’ve seen or heard on social media platforms. Knowing this, we make sure our social media presence is consistent so that we can continue targeting more audiences. By creating content on social media, we’re able to market our products and build credibility within our industry.
