We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Deborah France a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Deborah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Deborah France Ministries came to life after I saw the need for ALL people to have a safe space to process their stories and seek guidance in their struggles. I worked in a church for many years, and people were often uncomfortable being real with what they were facing. In a world where so much feels unsafe, my goal and my heart is to create a safe, encouraging environment to promote hope. My heart is to help people find a way forward through their struggles no matter what they are up against. I have personally, gone through some horrific circumstances. I have been in situations that I believed could never happen to me and I had to find a way forward with nowhere to turn. So often on that journey, I felt alone and hopeless. I don’t want people to feel how I felt. No story is too far gone, and God can be found in the midst of all circumstances. My goal is to help guide individuals and groups back to the things that matter most; their purpose and a constant hope from God within their journey. This ministry shares hope through my speaking engagements, guest preaching in churches, writings, group, and one-on-one coaching.

Deborah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I originally graduated with a degree in business. I have helped run million-dollar businesses and I have owned a couple of businesses. After I was personally hit with a lot of really challenging circumstances, that were out of my control, I felt led to share from a place of vulnerability. I grew up in the Northeast with zero faith and was not part of a family that went to church. At the age of 30, I began seeing the world through a different lens while living in Las Vegas. After multiple very hard circumstances came into my life, I knew that I was created for a greater purpose of helping others. I have created curriculums to help at-risk youth and young adults find their independent faith, I walk with people through a wide variety of situations including child hardships, mental health resources, infidelity, deaths, marriage struggles, family dynamics, church hurt, and more. My goal is for all those I encounter to find their purpose and find their roadmap to know they were made to succeed in this world.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that I was meant to do it all on my own. I have always been stubbornly independent. It took a lot of growing pains to realize first that I needed to be willing and humble enough to ask for help. And secondly, I needed to be secure enough in myself to know that there are people that are much better than me in a lot of areas and I needed to connect and utilize their talents for my best output. This is a hard lesson many of us struggle with in any business. I lost so much time trying to do it all myself instead of connecting and utilizing others’ strengths.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There have been multiple times in my life, where I have lost almost everything. My resilience to persevere is why I do what I do. I have worked full-time while raising two children solely on my own after an unexpected horrific situation. In the midst of that, we lost our house to a flood in which I needed to rebuild and again find a way forward. I have had to alter my career path multiple times throughout my life because of the circumstances that came my way, but an important lesson while constantly having to readjust after each hard hit is this, always find a passion for what you do and you will be able to accomplish anything.
