Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Deborah Argyropoulos. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Deborah , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
I have been a professional artist for over 20 years. Originally painting with oil pigments on canvas in a realism genre, I transitioned into becoming a corporate abstract artist. Eventually starting my own corporate art and art consulting company based in Austin, TX.
Corporate America is not known for its support of the arts, so it is my job to educate them on why art is essential to their overall success. In my experience while researching art in corporate spaces I noticed the people in the decision making positions were short sited and only looked at the immediate return on investment when discussing art in the workspace. However, art adds so much value that cannot be quantified dollar for dollar on the actual cost of the art itself. The value is in how art stimulates creativity and innovation, which encourage employees to think outside the box, approach problems from new perspectives, and come up with innovative solutions.
In addition, many corporations prioritize functionality and practicality in their office spaces. Art might be perceived as decorative rather than essential to the core functions of the business. What the corporation fails to recognize is how it has been proven that art can have stress- reducing and even healing effects, creating a more relaxed and focused atmosphere. Visually, the space contributes to a more enjoyable and engaging work environment, promoting a sense of teamwork and enhanced wellbeing.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As an artist I am deeply committed to the transformative power of art in a myriad of facets. My journey as an artist has been deeply influenced by a desire to create and promote art that transcends aesthetics and resonates with people on a profound level. I have dedicated my practice to developing artwork specifically tailored to the needs of corporations to enhance their productivity and elevate their brand, while bringing beauty, joy, and wellbeing to the people who work and visit in the space. My motivation to specialize in this area stems from a strong belief in the ability of art to foster a positive workplace environment. The added benefit of increased profits, innovation, and productivity when art is part of the corporate setting is a wonderful bonus.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I began my career as a realism painter, primarily focusing on portraits of people, animals, and nudes. Oil paints and pigments applied with brushes and palate knifes on traditional canvas was my medium of choice and I absolutely loved it. Most of my work was commissioned by individuals and I was actively showing my collection of works in galleries.
Then the pivot!
My career took an unexpected turn when I was offered a job to create a collection of abstract works for a corporate office in Newport Beach, CA. This was a significant artistic transition as it was the catalyst of transforming my style and focus out of realism and into the abstract world. I had to relearn my way of looking at art and my surroundings and make the conscious and deliberate choice of adapting a new way of approaching the “canvas”. There was no final image of what I had to create, it was more about a feeling and what needed to be said with color and form. This was the moment I started to rebrand my artistic identity.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I lived in Los Angels in the early 90’s through 2010. While pursuing my artistic endeavors I waitressed and would audition for small T.V. spots and game shows. Then in 1996 the unthinkable happened. I was chosen to be a contestant on “Wheel of Fortune’ and no one was more surprised than I was when I actually won a significant amount of money!!! Next, I was chosen to be on “Win Lose or Draw’, and those winnings helped grow my business piggy bank!
