We recently connected with Debbie McTammany and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Debbie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
Defining moment when I suddenly left my corporate job. I walked into my corporate office on a Monday, now 5 years ago, and the words gave out of my mouth, I am done, I am quitting. I literally shocked myself with the words. I knew I could no tolerate the job and what it was doing to me. I had been with the company for 25 years and always saw myself retiring from the company. I knew I was unhappy in the job, working an absorbent amount of hours, “acting” like I was fine, things were great, but underneath the smile, I was slowly losing myself, my peace, my sanity. Like the image of a ball pushing under the water eventually it will come flying out of the water. That was ME in that moment. I literally drove home numb and probably in shock to tell my husband, my family, I had quit with no other job secured. Certainly not what you teach your kids to do, be responsible, but when you are broken there are no rules or logic. The response from most everyone was, kudos, congratulations. Everyone had watched me over the years bury myself in the job that I despised. I didn’t want to deal with the emotions, the next steps so I just busied myself with the job. I just told myself over and over, I needed to stay at the company because of financial security, it was the “life” that everyone thought would bring fulfillment, the job and the title, the status that others wanted. What I learned from that experience, you know what you want and need don’t settle and lose yourself.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
After leaving my corporate job I didn’t know “how to fix what was broken within me”. A friend suggested seeing a life coach. Did I know what a life coach did, but at that moment I was willing to try anything. Fast forward to now. I am a life coach helping others navigate through the change, create power of possibilities. Because once you are anchored in fear, self doubt, overwhelm, I dont’ know energy nothing good comes out of that thinking. I ask everyone what do you want to be different, what do you want to create? Coaching with me will get you To You Get To Decide energy where your superpower is. 7 signs you might need a life coach: you want more but don’t know how to get it, you feel lost or confused, you have a vision, but not clear path, you doubt yourself, you want to change your profession, you are procrastinating, you are tired of wasting time and money with trying to figure out how to create change by yourself. With these 7 reasons, everyone could benefit from having a 1:1 life coach. I am here to support, challenge you throughout our coaching journey. Think of me as your parachute when you are creating change. You are not alone. I am here for you. I learned how to create my life on my terms. Now, I teach those tools and skills to others to create their lives on their terms.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I have experienced alot of living over decades. From those experiences, I have learned alot and experienced hardship, found joy and contentment along the way. From my vastness of experiences, I help others. As a mom, wife, sister, daughter, employee, self employed, I have shared experiences that are relatable to everyone. I am an exceptional listener. I use this superpower to help others understand what they are thinking, feeling, doing that they are not acutely aware of. An outsider is not attached to your thoughts, your 24/7 chatter, your drama, your results, I am there to help you help yourself. I see your possibilities. Coaching is thee tool to help you create change.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
After abruptly leaving my corporate with all the perks, benefits, I realized that none of that matters if you are not happy with yourself. I knew I had the power to “fix” myself so I went out seeking solutions. I found my first life coach and that literally changed my life. I realized I was living the life that others thought was “best” for me, I should be happy with my life. All the “should’s” I thought were the right choices for me. Once I learned how to manage my thoughts and emotions, my life changed. I was no longer pursuing other people goals, dreams, I knew what I wanted and went in pursue of that. I created a new, improved version of Debbie that has never looked back
