Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Deara Mckoy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Deara , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Some of the most interesting parts of our journey emerge from areas where we believe something that most people in our industry do not – do you have something like that?
Something that i do that a lot of girls in my industry are against is selling my vendor. A lot of people feel as if it eventually takes you out of business. My mindset is just that it’s enough for all of us. As long as i continue to promote and keep posting content and market in the way that my customers like they will always choose me! I’ve been selling my vendors for years and it hasn’t ever slowed down anything for me, i have been times vendors sales have paid for my inventory. Girls that brought my vendor even still come to me and purchase.

Deara , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am “Deara” the owner of The Hair Plug LLC. We specialize in supplying top quality hair extensions Raw Filipino, Raw Vietnamese + more. I’ve been selling hair since i was about 17, about 4 years now and I’ve been a full time entrepreneur since. I’m most proud of how i started this alone and never looked back. I truly put my all into my brand, late night hours waiting for my vendor to log in because of time differences, testing new hair changing my hair almost every week just to provide different origins and types for my customers etc.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think what really help me build the reputation for my brand is me being the face of my brand. A lot of brands just automatically hire celebrities or Instagram influencers to push their product and it doesn’t work because customers want to see “REAL PEOPLE” people they can connect with and maybe relate to a little bit more. Also, a lot of times Instagram influencers don’t really put their all into marketing your brand so you don’t get your month worth and end up losing out. I feel like my customers seeing that i actually wear the hair, videos of me testing it etc is what make them feel more connected with me and my brand.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
“The strangest secret” by Earl Nightingale is my favorite book ever. This is the book that helps me when i feel lost, stuck or just need a extra push. I really recommend this book to everyone.
