We recently connected with DeAnna Taylor and have shared our conversation below.
DeAnna, appreciate you joining us today. One deeply underappreciated facet of entrepreneurship is the kind of crazy stuff we have to deal with as business owners. Sometimes it’s crazy positive sometimes it’s crazy negative, but crazy experiences unite entrepreneurs regardless of industry. Can you share a crazy story with our readers?
I shared my business on WHEEL OF FORTUNE! I still can’t believe that in August of 2023, Pat Sajak’s last season, I got an opportunity of a lifetime. I spoke to millions of viewers about how our company supports busy moms with self-care. It seems like a dream, but the cash prize and free trip to Portugal…remind me that it truly happened! When I heard about the online audition submission, I first thought oh that would be fun. Then I began to let self-doubt settle in and began listing all the reasons why it couldn’t happen. This was the same pattern that emerged when I began Mom-Care Oasis too. I know I’m not alone. Too often when we have a great idea, we talk ourselves out of taking action because we assume that the unknown will not go in our favor. But if we must assume…why not “imagine” positive things being possible. So, this is what I did! I took the risk of applying, took the risk of auditioning and took the risk of showing up on national tv. Life as a business owner, provided the practice that made a Wheel of Fortune audition, not only possible, but successful. Now, as I stood in front of hot lights beaming on a face full of make-up, a purple suit that allowed me just enough room to spin that heavy wheel and spoke about my profession as my heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest…I knew I could do it. It’s funny how making one brave decision leads to making another one. Entrepreneurship is an emotional roller coaster, but so is life. I would rather live a life that I love, rather than watch opportunities pass by. Sharing my business on WOF gave me the confidence to continue taking big leaps of faith.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started Mom-Care Oasis because I had my own mental health struggles as a busy mom of 4. For too long I suffered in silence. When I finally became vulnerable and asked for help, my life changed. I now use my own journey of wellness as the ecosystem for support that every busy mommy needs. Mom-Care Oasis is a wellness company for busy moms on their journey to self-care and wellbeing. Through holistic life coaching and self-care products, Mom-Care Oasis desires to create a sanctuary where moms can prioritize their wellness at home. Launched in 2024, the “Mommy Needs A Minute” emotional self-care kit supports moms with establishing healthy boundaries, creating a personal oasis, managing stress, and celebrating achievements. This thoughtfully curated box empowers moms to take a moment for themselves despite their busy lives. MCO Executive Wellness is the sister company to Mom-Care Oasis, offering tailored wellness solutions specifically designed for busy professionals at work. With a focus on executive health and performance, MCO provides executive coaching, wellness workshops, and team building retreats that promote better work-life harmony. Together Mom-Care Oasis and its brands offer personalized wellness solutions that transform lives!
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
When Mom-Care Oasis was created, I always knew I wanted to create a self-care product women could use at home. But when I first started there were so many things to learn that I had to choose what to focus on. The three arms of the business has always been coaching, workshops and self-care products. The manufacturing process has truly been trial and error. When I first began, I didn’t have the resources to create the product that I wanted. Then I got invited to a wellness fair and decided I was going to put my business out there. Instead of feeling sad that my original idea wouldn’t be ready, I decided to create a variation and test the market. What I discovered was the true pain points of the customers. Had I not been willing to try, I would have missed out on valuable information that helped me in the future. It wasn’t until 3 years later that the “Mommy Needs A Minute” kit was revealed in May 2024. This process included me writing out the products I wanted to see in the kit and being willing to share this idea with my team. Also, I wanted the market to dictate the product decisions, especially since we had surveyed over 100 women to learn their needs. Then came the process of finding manufacturers which is long. For me it began with a google search and a lot of emails to get pricing quotes and production timelines. I learned how important it is to pay for a prototype and to build in extra weeks for product shipment. Although the kit is complete, I am still committed to finding even better vendors to serve my customers and make our profit goals. What I learned most of all, is that every business is trying to figure it out just like I am, so don’t be afraid to ask questions.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What has helped me build my reputation has been my willingness to embrace vulnerability. I share my story, the good bad and the ugly. The goal is that the truth will inspire and encourage someone else. When I coach clients, teach workshops or create a tool – I operate from a very authentic space. I am still a busy mom and I not only talk the talk, but use the tools to help me walk the walk. I don’t try to shield my story from our online community, for example, but I speak truthfully. I think that has been the biggest impact in my market. I also found that collaborating with like minded businesses has helped grow my message too!
