We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Deanna Rowland. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Deanna below.
Deanna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Sometimes I do wonder how much further I’d be in my creative career by now if I had started seriously pursuing this when I was younger, but everything happens for a reason. I’m grateful for all the experiences I’ve had that shaped me into the person I am today. I like to think of it as more of a unique edge than something negative – everything was character development. You can start something new or take a risk at any point in life. There’s no set timing, it’s when it makes sense for you. Dwelling on the past and ‘what ifs’ doesn’t change anything, but you can always set new goals and more forward with intention. Hit ‘em with a plot twist.
Deanna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m an actress and model – been around creatives and have taken up many artistic projects as a hobby since I was a child. However I didn’t start professionally pursing anything until I was living in Ohio during college, when I started modeling part time. Fast forward to moving to SoCal years later, and realizing that I could still successfully pick up modeling and acting jobs out here. So I decided to seriously go for it and see how far it’d take me, and here I am.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
The Audrey Helps Actors podcast by Audrey Moore. It’s a lifesaver and I highly recommend it.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Be mindful of current conditions for those in the industry right now. Support the strike. Stand up for the actors, writers, crew, teamsters, and all who are affected and fighting to be paid fairly. And above all, be kind. Check in on the creatives you know. It’s a rough time for us all, but together we’re stronger.
