We recently connected with Deanna Primm and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Deanna, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission behind my brand is to give my clients the upscale service that they truly deserve when being serviced in a beauty salon. As I’ve experienced so many unprofessional salon’s rather I worked in them or was getting serviced that drew me to this mission. The hair industry became so watered down due to the lackness of professionalism, structure, and how we treat one another in my opinion. I want to bring back those entities into the hair industry as it is well needed. I strongly believe without it you can’t be the successful individual you’re wanting to be because you need people to be successful. And what I mean about that is your business travels through word of mouth. Being professional and kind to your client/customer could potential put you at a door you wanted but couldn’t unlock but your client/customer can. You just never know who you might be serving.

Deanna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am entrepreneur, business owner, hairstylist base out of St.Louis, Mo. That’s goal driven, ambitious, and honorable. Now I am still human so when I give you this insight of my life just try to empathize because it was definitely a journey to get me to this point in like. I have faced obstacles I never thought or imagined I would face. Having my daughter at 16 was a very interesting journey but I was able to graduated from McClure South Berkeley with my class in 2009. I was set to go off to college at Lincoln University. I went for my schedule and to do public housing due to me having my daughter. I had everything all set to start that fall of 2009 my public housing was approved and a unit was ready. All I needed was a ride back to Jefferson City. The ride never took place so all my dreams I had for my little girl and I was snatched from under me. I didn’t have the type of parents you see on television. It was really like you had to go for what you knew or the little you pick up on growing up. As today I’m still learning the correct way of thing’s. So my journey for my daughter and I became a hardship. I attempted to attend Harris-stowe University in 2010 but of course I had to drop out due to not having the support system that I needed. Then I attempted to go to St Louis community college thinking it would be easier for my mom to watch her while I go to school because I didn’t have money for daycare. But no that was short lived as well. So I took some time off I started to work. I began to work in assisted living facility as CNA, CMT. Then and 2011 I attempt to go to cosmetology School Elaine Lane Stevens Beauty as I was so excited. Then shortly after I became pregnant when I reached my 5 month mark with my baby girl I started to have complications and only had 6 months of school left. My complications cause me to lose her so I dropped out of cosmetology School. I didn’t go back to school that year or the year after I just went back to working in the assisted living facilities. Then 2013 my son was born after him life definitely did a 360 I started to go through things you can only imagine. Through all the trials I still wanted do hair as it’s a passion for me, I’ve always wanted to be a business owner. But I had so much going on I didn’t know what to do. So I just started to take steps and ask God to guide me as I took those steps. I really had to lean on my faith because I can truly say I was in a dark moment but I still remain strong because I couldn’t allow my children to see what we were going through. I was adamant about getting my cosmetology license so in 2020 I decided to go back to cosmetology school at Grabber School of Hair Design. As that was a journey to but I did graduate in 2022 which made one of my happiest moments of my life. It definitely took alot of tears alot of discipline alot of self motivating alot of positive affirmation, inspirational speakers, it just took alot of pouring into self. As it built me into the woman I am today. I come welcoming, professional, kind, and understanding. As my work come authentic!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
What I had to unlearn was just because I am a family member or a friend of someone doesn’t mean that they automatically have to support me. I use to feel a certain way when I see you my family member or friend’s of mine supporting someone else. I had to understand that people are going to support who they’re wanting to support. As the right people will come into your life not only to support but to introduce you to people and things that could potentially take you to a level you wanted to be.
