We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful DeAnna Dorsey. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with DeAnna below.
Alright, DeAnna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The story behind how I came up with the name “ Truth Be Told Podcast w/DeAnna” intentionally came from a place of me being mentally, spiritually, emotionally and even physically exhausted from hiding and covering up the pain, secrets and lies of my past. I remember sitting with a notepad writing down every name that came to mind and out of them all “Truth Be Told” hit my heart. It was a clear reminder that it was my time to tell “MY” truth.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Who is DeAnna you may ask? DeAnna is a 37 year old woman who’s experienced childhood trauma and a survivor of Domestic Violence. No matter the hardship, I always believed light would meet me at the end of the tunnel. I often prayed the light would flash sooner than later, If I can be completely transparent with you. Some days felt darker than others and at times I wasn’t sure if I would conquer darkness to bare witness to what I believed waited for me on the other side. During my childhood and early teen years, I would get lost in deep thought, thinking of ways I could advocate for people that were suffering in silence. While Wanting to use all that I’ve experienced in a positive way, fear sometimes cause me to be at a standstill. What was I afraid of you ask? Fear of judgement from sharing my truth. Truth Be Told, holding it all in was slowly destroying me and I knew it was others that could mostly likely relate but how would I ever know if I never push pass my fears.
The Birth of “Truth Be Told” came from a place of healing and unlearning my past to be able to embrace who I was becoming. Pealing back the layers of my truth wasn’t a beautiful view, but it was my reality. “Truth Be Told” was birth from healing my own disfunctions and openly sharing my journey with hopes of helping others believe in their own. “Truth Be Told Podcast” is a virtual space where people can come and feel Loved, Heard & Respected for simply being themselves. I call it the “ No Judgement Zone” it amazes me to see complete strangers interact with each other with encouraging words and sometimes differences of opinion while being completely honest, respectful and opened minded about the topic at hand. Wow, what I once dreamed about was happening right before my eyes. Sharing my journey not only allowed me to be relatable, but also a visible example of what embracing your truth and healing looks like. I believe what sets me apart from others is my ability to genuinely love people for who they are not what I think they should be. I must say, I’m most proud of myself for making the decision to push through the fear and embrace the beauty of my truth because it allows me to extend love, understanding and grace not only towards myself but to others traveling along what can be an uncomfortable and lonely road.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A story from my journey that illustrates my resilience would be the time I was planning my very first event and three weeks before the actual event was to take place, I received a call from the venue director stating all upcoming events were canceled due to a pipeline issue. While trying to remain calm during the phone call I couldn’t help but silently scream! Instantly I went into panic mode. Three weeks away, with no location, vendors and attendees already purchased tickets. How was I going to pull this off?? After having a moment.. “Truth Be Told” there was no plan “B” in position, I was sure plan “A”would work. Remembering the objective of the event, I then became calm. Assertively, saying out loud, “This event will happen!” I was determined. Even if we had to have it outside. “YOU ARE NOT ALONE “ which was the title of the event, had to push forward and I had faith that it would. I’m happy to share with you, not only did we have a new location to hold the event but the turnout was better than I imagined. Due to unforeseen circumstances things were delayed, but not canceled. The empowerment event put together for my peers to remind them: the road to healing may become complicated yet you don’t have to face it alone. That Was the exact reminder I needed to help me push through.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a Speaker/Podcast Host would be witnessing the growth of individuals finding their voice and fully embracing the journey of where they’ve been and where they’re going. It’s such a beautiful sight to see. Being of one that once suffered in silence, I remember the joy I felt first hand.
