We were lucky to catch up with Deanna Agbalaya recently and have shared our conversation below.
Deanna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Taking risk what’s something I was always scared to do, but May 14, 2022 I quit my job to pursue full-time entrepreneurship career as an artist and working in reality tv. I work as a case manager for four years, while still working towards my dream of becoming a famous entertainer. It was hard to travel to do bookings while still working 9 to 5, because I always had obligations. This was one of my biggest risk I ever took in my life because I didn’t know where my next real income would come from at that point and music and reality TV was not pay my bills, so I was going out on a dream, hoping taking that big step of pursuing my dream 100% will take off and support me. To be honest, I didn’t even know where my next income or meal would really come from. It is now October of 2022 and I can say that risk really was a blessing my booking and my income has finally start to pick up from my creative work I am now a influencer who gets paid from all social media platforms, this year I also opened up for lizzo special tour along with a host of other bookings. May 14,2022 I didn’t know what would be the outcome but I took a risk to follow my dream I am now living.

Deanna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always been a creative person. I love performing arts. I was little I started off as a dancer dancing in neighborhood, dance groups participating in local parade in Chicago and then I started to have a passion for fashion, But I noticed that everything I did I loved it because it was all in the industry but I didn’t feel like I was doing what I wanted to do so I started to apply for acting and modeling gigs. Which a lot of times I was scammed, but it did not stop me from going after my dream, which was just being in the industry. At this point I didn’t really know what I wanted to do in the industry but I knew that I wanted to be apart of the industry. In 2019 I received my first big show with hbo max on a dancing vogue competition show on hbo max legendary with Megan the stallion and host of other celebrity Judges were we completed for 100,000 $. After that I became so much more know and that’s when delicious Gucci became a house hold name. After I got off the show I started to pursue my career in music and started to rap, which now is my biggest passion and I am releasing a album this year , as well as selling merch and skin care products.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Being black was one thing, but then being trans in the industry was a whole Nother thing I got turned down off the fact that I was a black transgender women a lot of people did not want to work with me a lot of people pre-judge me a lot of people told me no about things but it doesn’t fit a cerin image but I never let that stop me from pursuing my dreams and my goals of becoming one of the most iconic LGBT entertainers while I’m still working towards that title there are lotta obstacles because of who I chose to be Maybe if I wasn’t who I was (delicious Gucci) maybe I could have made my mark quicker . But I think the struggles I went through actually show my resilience, and made me way stronger and smarter and also can aspire a community of people who feels like they can’t pursue their dreams, because of their gender.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to be the voice of a community that feels like they are not visible I am very creative, and I know that my creativity deserves the acknowledgment and I know sometimes you don’t get that acknowledgment because of who you are sometimes you have to work harder because of who you are in my mission is to show people that no matter who you are you can’t be great you can be on top you could be that girl you just have to work through all of these obstacles
