We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful DeAndre Fulton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with DeAndre below.
DeAndre, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful, one must first define what success means to them. I am successful because everyday I am able to do what I desire for a living. My mind, body, & spirit is present with my purpose. The people around me believe I am in my purpose. I was a workaholic in my 20s. I missed a lot of family functions. I gave my employers all of me because I didn’t know what I actually wanted to do with my life. The jobs I thought I would retire from were the jobs I got fired from. I thought a job represented Security & then you have a side business or side hustle. I was tired of being fired. Tired of waiting until the new work week to tell others what my week was going to be like. I was tired of waiting for others to retire in order for me to get “good days off”. The last time I got fired, I asked God to make it “The last time I got fired”. I’ve been a full time content creator since 2016.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience during the summer of 2016. I realized there were so many young people making music. Being they were young, assumed they had all attention and no money. I found a few young people who were unknown, but consistent. I shot their videos for cheap while keeping the quality above average as well as making the turnaround time unbelievably fast. This combination alarmed others as they were waiting 2-3 weeks for subpar quality videos. In addition i released a new video or sometimes 3-5 videos everyday from June to August.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn being the “affordable videographer” just to stay busy. When I was ready to go up on my prices, a lot of my clients became discouraged and started looking to other videographers who were willing to compromise their prices. Eventually I would start “firing” my clients once I realized most of them valued cost over quality.
